This is the year of Guillermo del Toro, as his film 'Pinocchio' won the 2023 PGA Award for Best Animated Film. 'Pinocchio' is a fantasy/musical animated film from 2022 that portrayed the story of Geppetto's creation in a very emotional yet poetic way.

Not an everyday animated film
Guillermo del Toro's 'Pinocchio' premiered on Netflix November 24, 2022, and has been the talk of critics' awards and nominations ever since. The musical fantasy isn't your run-of-the-mill animated film that can be quickly erased from your memory, but is gripping and consistent in its storytelling. The stop-motion film was co-directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson, who worked with Portland-based stop-motion animation company ShadowMachine. Lisa Henson, daughter of the late great puppeteer Jim Henson, is one of the film's producers, which places the film even more firmly in the world of animation. When he turned to animation, particularly stop-motion animation, del Toro wanted to retell the story of Carlo Collodi's 'Pinocchio,' the wooden puppet who finds his way in life by getting into difficult adventures and learning lessons from them. Del Toro's version of the wooden puppet is so popular that it could win Best Animated Feature at the 2023 Academy Awards.
'Road to Oscar'
While 'Pinocchio' won the PGA Award 2023, Twitter celebrated in the most wholesome way, "It deserves all of the awards, I love this movie" chimed a user, "Road to Oscar win #pinocchio" added another. One user shared a happy GIF with the caption,"Deserved".
'Puss in Boots' and 'Pinocchio' competed for the "Best Animated Film" award and even though people were sad that 'Puss in Boots' deserved the award as much as 'Pinocchio', they still celebrated the win with fervour. "Even tho I'm a little sad that Peak In Boots lost, I'm glad Pinocchio won, I'm also glad that Disney lost lol" wrote a user. While some celebrated the win, some were bewildered about the fact that they missed this movie's release, "had no idea this movie even came out" wrote a user. For some fans, the win urged them to watch the movie, "I need to watch this movie." wrote a user.
