FLORIDA KEYS, FLORIDA: Prime Video's new release 'Road House' is a modern take on the 1989 film of the same name. Despite sharing a premise and title with its predecessor, the 2024 version delivers a fresh cinematic experience in the comfort of our homes.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Elwood Dalton, a former MMA fighter, the film follows his temporary job at a roadhouse in Glass Key.

Dalton soon discovers unexpected violence at Road House with a hidden agenda involving Ben Brandt (Billy Magnussen), who aims to take over the establishment to build a resort.

During a brawl at the Road House, Knox (Conor McGregor) severely injures Dalton which prompts him to leave the city.

On his way, he discovers Charlie's bookstore burned down and Charlie (Hannah Love Lanier) missing, igniting his rage as he cares deeply for her.

Dalton unleashes his inner demon, seeking revenge by killing Vince (Beau Knapp), Ben's henchman, and stealing Ben's money.

When Ben kidnaps Ellie (Daniela Melchior), her father (Joaquim de Almeida) seeks Dalton's help, despite Dalton's suspicions about the sheriff's intentions.

Refusing to hand over the stolen money, Dalton confronts Ben, leading to a violent showdown and an explosion.

Amidst the chaos, Dalton attempts to rescue Ellie from the sinking boat while Ben plots to destroy Road House by himself. Meanwhile, Dalton has to fight with Knox before stopping Ben.

As Dalton chases Ben, the latter's boat crashes into the Road House, causing severe damage to the property.

At the Road House, Dalton pursues Ben and confronts him, leading to a physical altercation.

Knox then enters the scene, engaging in a brutal fight with Dalton and exacerbating his existing injuries with a sharp wood, causing Dalton to bleed profusely.

Ben, now on his feet, instructs Knox to finish off Dalton, but Knox, fed up with Ben's ineptitude, kills Ben instead.

Intent to kill Dalton, Knox approaches him, but Dalton summons his courage and fights back fiercely, ultimately taking down Knox with multiple wounds.

Grateful for Dalton's actions in saving Ellie, the sheriff advises Dalton to leave town, promising to cover for him.

With Glass Key returning to normalcy, Frankie (Jessica Williams) decides to restore the Road House with her team. Meanwhile, Charlie and her father restore the bookstore.

As Dalton departs quietly, he leaves a bag of money for Charlie and catches a bus back to his hometown.

This setup hints at a potential sequel where Knox seeks revenge on Dalton, as he's not one to forget or forgive easily.

'Road House' is available to stream on Prime Video.
