'Riverdale' season 4: Chad Michael Murray's looney, yet sinister Edgar was the best villain to have appeared on the show so far

This article contains spoilers for 'Riverdale' season 4 episode 3: 'Dog Day Afternoon'

We said this in our review too. Chad Murray dishes out a terrific performance as an organ harvesting criminal to someone who literally loses his mind in this episode. The Farm, a nefarious cult introduced in season 3, was supposedly a front to whack people of their organs. In a suave-looking Edgar, the Farmies, as the teens call it, has a leader who claims he can set their lives right. His wife Evelyn (Zoé de Grand' Maison) is an able accomplice.

In the previous episode, the new location of The Farm was revealed and Betty (Lili Reinhart) along with Charles Cooper (Wyatt Nash) decide to bring the curtains down on the organization. However, Edgar makes the first move by sending Betty's sister, Polly (Tiera Skovbye) with a bomb strapped to her and a list of demands that the FBI has to fulfill to ensure the safety of the people at The Farm.

While the FBI refuses to comply, Betty fulfills the demands (seriously people, don't ask us how she managed to do all that in record time) which include $250,000, a school bus, and passports. When she drops them off hoping she could rescue her mom, Alice (Madchen Amick), she gets knocked out by Evelyn.

The ultimate plan is that Evelyn would drive the bus filled with The Farmies off a cliff with Betty and Alice tied to the front of the bus while Edgar would escape in his rocket. Call it sheer lunacy, but Murray is simply outstanding as a deluded criminal. The sight of him wearing an Evel Knievel suit and standing next to his rocket is a fun scene and even if it's absolutely ridiculous, it's still a plan. However, Alice seems to have had enough of this and shoots Edgar.

When we first saw Edgar, he comes across as this calm, mild-mannered priestly figure who takes the oppressed into his Farm, gives them loving care and talks to them. He also steals their body parts by drugging them. The plan is ultimately foiled, but it is also sad that we don't get to see Edgar anymore. Of all the villains to have appeared in 'Riverdale' so far, Murray's looney, yet sinister Edgar was simply the best.

'Riverdale' season 4 airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on The CW.
