'Riverdale' Season 4: Cheryl Blossom's storyline is insane and ludicrous but has worked well for the show so far

She has been a key part of the storyline since episode 2 and it goes well with the show as her story outshines that of some of the core four.

Cheryl Blossom's (Madelaine Petsch) senior year hasn't gone exactly the way she would have wanted it to. She clashes with the new school principal, Mr. Honey (Kerr Smith), there's that awful Jason Blossom's body that she's still keeping at Thistlehouse and then there's that third yet-to-be-seen twin who ensures that 'Riverdale' has its dose of horror. In many ways, Cheryl's storyline may come across as ludicrous and downright outlandish, but it fits with the show's theme perfectly.

Barring the core four, Cheryl has been that one character who has been a perpetual victim since the pilot season. She lost her brother, Jason. Her father's a criminal and a killer. The mother, Penelope (Nathalie Boltt) isn't exactly inspirational material and the only two consolations are her girlfriend, Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) and her gang. This season, let's add dead Jason to the mix. This just adds to the fun and the mystery on the show.

Cheryl has been a fan-favorite since the series' inception and fans have been pleading with showrunners on social media to give Cheryl her due. It sure looks like their prayers are being heard as Cheryl has managed to have a strong storyline in season 4. She has been a key part of the storyline since episode 2 and it goes well with the show as her story outshines that of some of the core four.

Plus, there is also that intriguing upcoming storyline about the return of Cheryl's previous love interest, Heather. Petsch, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight teased the arrival of her former lover who she had fallen for when she was admitted to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. However, Penelope ensured she would break the relationship leading to Heather departing from the town. While there has been no arrival of Heather yet, this is another plot point that is sure to augur well for the already successful show.

What are your thoughts on Cheryl's storyline this season?

Riverdale doesn't air as usual on November 28, but will be back next week.
