'Riverdale' fans excited at the possibility of a Betty-Archie romance resurfacing in season 4
The San Diego Comic-Con 2019 witnessed the 'Riverdale' ensemble teasing fans with what they could expect to see in the upcoming season four. Lili Reinhart who plays the role of Betty on the teen drama show mentioned a possibility of Betty and Archie (played by KJ Apa) — "Barchie" romance playing out on our screens again!
We first saw Betty crushing on Archie in season one. In the same season, Archie meets Veronica Lodge (played by Camila Mende), and is instantly drawn to her and they soon start dating. Betty begins dating Jughead (played by Cole Sprouse), Archie’s best buddy.
For the most part of the second and third season, the couples had their fair share of highs and lows, but towards the end of season three, we see Betty and Archie giving it a go again.
Lili teased fans saying, "I think Jughead is going off to prep school and that creates a distance which involves the mystery of the season, whatever that may be. It might bring some people closer together, it may pull people further apart," subtly hinting at a possible Barchie romance. Camila echoed similar thoughts when a fan asked her if there would be a love triangle between Archie, Betty and her. She responded saying "100%".
Fans took to this news with a lot of excitement and hope for Barchie. A fan wrote, "I'm team #Barchie untill the day I die. Veronica and Archie don't belong together, no matter how hard writers will push for this crackship. That's the tweet." Another fan commented, "I can’t be the only one who hopes Barchie gets together in season 4. I have shipped Barchie in Riverdale since season 1. Riverdale is one of my favorite TV shows #barchie."
Fans even started picking out scenes from earlier seasons which highlighted Betty's and Archie's feelings towards each other. "Did someone notice in #Riverdale when Archie was cleaning up his room and throwing everything out from his desk the only thing he kept was the pictures of him and Betty on the wall? ... I mean #barchie."
'Riverdale' season 4 will premiere on The CW on October 10, 2019.
