RIP Rick: The tragic story of the accident victim who brought the internet to tears
Life is fragile. You never know what may happen the very next moment. One such incident popped up on Twitter when a woman named Margie — whose bio reads "Retired Union Labor Relations Representative, Organizer" — posted about an accident she witnessed. "I witnessed a horrible accident on the way home from dropping my grandkids off. I saw a car hit a young man on his motorcycle and he flew approx 500 ft in the air. I ran and was the first on the scene. He died holding my hand. His name was Rick. I may take another day off," the tweet left many shattered on social media and soon collected over 2,000 retweets and 26,000 likes.
Within minutes, there were calls on who was he on Twitter as people couldn't wait to know his identity. Moreover, the incident went viral on social media and it seemed like it was a hit-and-run case that needed to be investigated.

When one Twitter user asked, "How horrible! I'm sure he was grateful to have you there. Awful thing to witness Bless you for the kindness you showed this man! Did the guy that hit him stop?" she also added: "No he left. He had some friends that tried to chase him. That’s how I knew his name."

Now people can't stop wondering who was the driver who hit him and was it intentional. "Damn! I hope they got his plates! He needs to be charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. No punishment will too tough! He needs life! I truly hope you will find some peace and be able to sleep!!" one tweet read. Another said, "I can't believe the driver ran off. He will be arrested, that he fled the scene will dramatically increase the charges, guessing he wasn't sober." What's more, one even went on to say, "God the driver who hit him is such a coward! At least you stopped & held his hand & provided him some comfort. I'm sorry you had to witness that."

Soon, several others started sharing their memories of strangers they had encountered after accidents on road. "RIP Rick. I was with a Grandmother pinned in her truck. We rescued her 3 granddaughters from the wreckage. She waited till they were all safe before she passed. I will never forget that moment," one said and another wrote, "Margie, you did an amazing thing. My dad was hit by a drunk driver leaving a prom party in the early 2000s. I wrecked blowing a tire. We both had someone like you that responded without fear or hesitation. You were his angel like we had ours."
RIP Rick.

Many showered praise on her for doing the right thing. "RIP Rick. This shows there are still humans being compassionate to each other. Rick didn't die alone and there is love in that. I pray you take solace in the knowledge that by being there he was comforted during his transition. Take care Love," one tweet read. Another said, "Dear Margie, I want to send my support and concern for the traumatic accident you were witness to today. First, RIP Rick. Glad you were there. (My son died alone after a motorcycle crash in 2010. Your Tweet touched me.) May U cope with this trauma."

One even went on to say: "The RIP Rick story shows humanity transcends religion, politics and everything if we let ourselves be human. I'm grateful for good people out there who compassionately care for a stranger enough to be by their side holding their hand in their final hours during a pandemic."
