The 'Today' show announced the news of the demise of their longtime producer Ric Romo on June 28. Romo was a West coast news producer on the 'Today' show for over 30 years. Romo died over the weekend at the age of 62. The cause of his death is not yet known. According to reports, Romo was admitted to the hospital and was with his family.
Romo joined the NBC family back in 1979. He worked with them until his death. He was one of the highest-paid producers in the media industry. Throughout his time with NBC, Romo covered many famous stories including the OJ Simpson trial back in 1995, numerous red carpet events and West Coast earthquakes. Romo's colleagues referred to him as "the most-loved person in the newsroom". His work on the red carpet made him friends with some famous names including the late Hollywood great Fred Astaire, who was an actor and dancer.
Speaking of Romo's death, 'Today' show host Carson Daly said, "He was a great storyteller. He was incredibly funny. Ric knew everybody on the NBC lot, they knew him, he knew the security guards and all the way up to Johnny Carson himself. He brought a smile to everybody’s face, literally just when Ric walked in the door." Weather forecaster Al Roker said, "He just had this infectious smile and this wonderful, wonderful attitude."

Ric Romo was married to Carol. The couple married in 1981. Romo's sudden death is very shocking and heartbreaking for his family and friends. Reportedly, he was very close to his friends.
