‘Rhythm + Flow’: Fans feel Jakob Campbell was “robbed” in the rap battle
The competition on Netflix’s latest reality talent-hunt show ‘Rhythm + Flow’ is heating up. After successfully touring across the country to pick out the best talent, the judges — Cardi B, Chance the Rapper and T.I. are putting the shortlisted top 30 contestants through the test of fire to retain only the very best. For the first challenge, the 30 contestants were split into groups of four and had to perform freestyle cyphers. Following this, 14 contestants were eliminated. The remaining 16 were made to compete in a rap battle to cull out the best in the competition.
One such rap battle took place between Jakob Campbell from Denver, and Troyman from Atlanta. Both the aspiring rappers put up a brilliant performance filled with strong hooks and catchy lines. While Jakob took digs at Troyman’s time spent in prison, Troyman hit back by questioning Jakob’s presence in the competition. The live audience enjoyed both the performances, and the judges looked torn when it came to picking a winner. After some deliberation amongst themselves, Troyman was announced as the winner. Chance later revealed that he favored Jakob, and T.I. chose Troyman, so the decision fell ultimately in Cardi’s hands. Cardi went with Troyman, making him the winner.
Fans felt that Jakob was “robbed” during the battle and felt that he should have been the winner. A fan tweeted, “Jacob Definitely Hands Down Was Better Than Troy #RhythmAndFlow #rhythmandflownetflix #Netflix”. Another fan wrote, “Me knowing jacob got robbed me also trying not to care because this is black culture and he’s white. #RhythmAndFlow”. Another fan echoed similar thoughts with, “Jakob Campbell got robbed. #RhythmAndFlow”. “Jacob was nice in the battle I think he should have went on his shit was dope enough to make it #RhythmAndFlow”, expressed a fan.
