'Real Housewives of New York': Sonja mistakes Lil Kim for Beyonce, fans say 'not every black woman is Beyonce'
New housewife Leah McSweeney is nothing like the other 'Real Housewives of New York' ladies. She is one of the few housewives who has strong political opinions and isn’t afraid to show them off.
In an earlier episode, Leah gave us a glimpse of it when she began throwing away Tikki torches from her fellow housewife Ramona Singer's house because she didn't like what the torches signified.
On the latest episode, Leah wasn't as extreme, but the housewife turned up to the New York Fashion Week show in an outfit with Lil Kim's mugshot printed all over it. The outfit did get quite some attention from the other ladies.
Unfortunately, fans didn't like any of the reactions that the other housewives had about Leah’s statement outfit. As soon as Sonja Morgan saw Leah’s outfit with the prints, she went closer to examine who was printed on the shirt. After close examination, Sonja asks Leah if she was wearing an outfit with Beyonce printed on it.
Fans were unhappy with Sonja after she mistook Lil Kim for Beyonce, and called her out by saying not all black women are Beyonce. A fan tweeted, "Sonja rly thought that was beyoncé on Leah's dresss and not Lil Kim in a mugshot... i have to un-stan #RHONY."
"No Sonja did not confuse Lil Kim for Beyonce when asking about the print on Leah's dress, nah she ain't do that. It's one thing not to know that's Lil Kim, it's an entirely other thing to think that may be Beyonce. Girl Bye @BravoTV #RHONY," wrote another annoyed fan.
A fan shared, "No, Sonja, that is not Beyoncé on Leah’s dress. That is Lil’ Kim. Put your readers back on babe. #RHONY #BravoTV." One fan expressed, "Sonja really just asked Leah if that's 'Beyoncé or something' on her dress. Girl, that's Lil Kim's mugshot. Let's not play games! #RHONY."
"HOLD UP did Sonja just say 'Beyoncé or someone' when it's Lil’ Kim. I'm done #RHONY," revealed a fan. Another fan pointed out to Sonja, "Sonja, not every black woman is Beyoncé #RHONY."
Unfortunately, Sonja wasn't the only one who got herself into a sticky situation with Leah's outfit. Dorinda Medley too had a foot-in-the-mouth situation when she complimented Leah's outfit by comparing it to a skirt she used to wear when she was younger with General Mao's face printed on it.
Fans were appalled by Dorinda’s comparison of Lil Kim to General Mao. A fan tweeted, "Leah's in a dress with Lil Kim's face all over it. Dorinda said she had a dress in the ‘90s with General Mao on it, so she gets it. Uhh... #RHONY."
Another fan wrote, "Dorinda just compared Andy Warhol's General Mao print to Lil Kim's mugshot ? #RHONY #OkayWork." Few fans were amused with Dorinda's comparison. A fan joked, "Dorinda's comparison of General Mao & Lil' Kim shows the generational divide between her and Leah....#RHONY."
