‘Real Housewives of Orange County’: Vicki’s unapologetic homophobic remarks leave Andy Cohen and fans incensed
We know that the ‘Real Housewives’ reunions can be filled with a lot more drama than the show itself, but we never saw this level of drama ever. Former OG housewife Vicki Gunvalson is unhappy about losing her orange and is losing no opportunity to express it. In the third and final part of the reunion, the housewife decided to lock horns with not only the housewives but also the host and executive producer of the show Andy Cohen himself, in the process, she ended up coming across as a homophobe and insecure person.
Vicki went off the deep end when she said she found Braunwyn disgusting because the new housewife kisses women while she is married with a husband and seven children, and yet chooses to bring another woman into her marriage. The former housewife kept repeating the word disgusting, until Andy intervened and asked her why that is disgusting, Vicki snapped and asked Braunwyn to pick a lane. When Andy questioned her further, Vicki once again snapped and said that the show has changed a lot and she wants to be respected and be a role model. Soon Vicki started screeching that she “wasn’t interviewed” for landing a role on the show. Andy then looks a bit annoyed and reminded her that he saw her interview tape and even showed a snippet of her tape.
Not to be left behind, Vicki revealed that a woman came to her house saying she wanted to film a show called ‘Behind the Gates’ but she didn’t want to be a part of a reality show. By now Andy seemed to have had enough of her and reminded her that she doesn’t have to be on the show if she doesn’t want to and added that the show made her “very rich”. Sensing her defeat, Vicki immediately changed tracks and said she doesn’t have to do what Braunwyn does, which according to her is to sensationalize everything to be on the show.
Andy then concluded Vicki’s segment of the reunion and asked her to leave. Vicki then whispered to Andy not to forget where he came from while again repeating that she never auditioned for the show. A surprised Andy says the same to her and asks her to not forget her beginnings.
After she left he called the former housewife’s behavior and everything that went down as “insanity”. Vicki, however, went back to the green room and lashed out at the producers and she could be heard saying that the cast needs to be “elevated”, and that the current cast is a “disaster”. The cherry on the cake was her remark, “I’m embarrassed to be a part of this show”. Pretty strong words there, Vicki.
The housewife’s comments about Braunwyn’s sexuality were straight-up homophobic, and unfortunately, Vicki doesn’t seem to be unapologetic about it. While her petty fight with Andy about her audition exposed her insecurities, fans called out the housewife for her inappropriate behavior and demanded that Andy fire her. A fan tweeted, “Ok, so we learned some stuff. @vgunvalson is a power-hungry homophobe who needs to be fired. Also, why is she only going off on Braunwyn when Tamra did the same thing? Anyway... @Andy, Vicki needs to go. #FireVickiGunvalson #RHOC”. Another fan shared, “Andy has been very firm with the ATL and Beverly Hills housewives about their problematic relationship with the LGBT community. I think Andy needs to tackle Vicki's long-term homophobic streak next. #RHOC”.
Almost all fans took Andy’s side and demanded he fire Vicki. A fan wrote, “@Andy I really hope you stand up for yourself, @BravoTV and everyone who works on the show- Vicki needs to be fired. She actually thinks she is more important than you and the producers. If she is back next season, shame on you all. #RHOC”. “We all just watched the moment that got @vgunvalson fired. @Andy, as a gay man, how's it feel hearing Vicki say "choose a lane" or "it's disgusting"? What a bigot. She's cancelled along with Leeanne from #rhod for her racist comments. 2020 is the year Bravo fires bigots. #RHOC”.
