SANTA MONICA, CA: Reports of a pornographic video recorded at a public library were met with surprise and outrage from residents in the city of Santa Monica.

While it is unclear when the video was made, it was reportedly shot at Ocean Park Library during business hours and later uploaded to an adult film website, NBC Los Angeles reports. "That is wrong, it is completely wrong," resident Felipe Herrador said. "It’s a public place, a library where there are children. How will the city or people allow that?"

A young woman in the 10-minute video reportedly exposes herself in front of John Muir Elementary School before walking through city streets and finally entering the public library. Once inside, the woman undresses and performs sexual acts on camera.

"I hope they catch them and that they go to jail," one resident said.

The situation could have been avoided if whoever recorded the video would have had "more dignity and gone to another place that isn’t public," another resident added.

Performing and recording lewd activities in any public place can result in serious legal ramifications, according to Attorney Luis Carrillo. "If a person is found to have committed that crime, the punishment may include, apart from jail, registering as a sex offender," Carrillo told the outlet.

And if the person in the video performing sexual acts is a minor, "then whoever uploaded this to social media can be charged in federal court for possession of child pornography," Carollo added.

The city called the video "deeply disturbing" in a statement, with city officials noting obscene acts in the public library are illegal. That said, Santa Monica police are currently investigating the incident.

"This video is deeply disturbing," the statement said. "Lewd acts in the public library are a violation of library rules and against the law. Staff did not have knowledge of the incident when it took place."

The pornographic video has since been taken down from the said adult film website, per the report.
