Two-year-old boy trapped in 250-ft borehole for a week as teams continue to dig tunnel to rescue him

Many bated breaths across the world are lending support under the hashtag 'MimanoaJulen' (#MyHandtoJulen) as Spanish authorities race against time to rescue a 2-year-old boy, who fell in a narrow 250-feet borwell a week ago.
While the fate of Julen Rosello is unknown, rescuers said they were hoping against hope that the child is still surving as they desperately dig a parallel hole to the borewell to get him out.
Angel Garcia, engineer in charge of the search and rescue teams, said, "Right now it's as if Julen was the child of us all. If your child was there you'd do everything you could to look for him, wouldn't you!! Well, we're doing everything we can too."
Rescue operations kicked in last Sunday afternoon after the two-year-old was reported to have fallen in the borewell on his family-owned land located north east of the Costa del Sol capital of Malaga.
Police and experts called in for the operation were hopeful the toddler is surviving in an air pocket with water.
According to the Daily Mail, Julen fell down the narrow borehole while having an outdoor picnic with parents Jose Rosello and Vicky Garcia.
The hole had reportedly been made by a prospector at the request of Jose's cousin's boyfriend in search of water, with the toddler's family alleging the hole was only covered with stones and not properly sealed. The ordeal is all the more harrowing for the parents as they had tragically lost Julen's brother, three-year-old Oliver, to a heart attack two years ago.
Recalling the horrific moment his son fell down the well, the father said, "My wife went to phone into work to let them know she wasn't going. She was with Julen and asked me to keep an eye on him as she made the call. He was only a few feet away."

"I was putting some more wood on for the fire for the paella and ran towards him," he continued. "My cousin was a bit nearer and threw herself on the ground as I reached the orifice. He had already gone, I heard him cry at first but then I didn't hear him cry anymore."

Officials are expected to start drilling a new vertical tunnel in an attempt to reach the toddler and announced on Friday, January 18, that they were only 10 feet away from digging out an 82ft-deep hole in the hillside. This would also allow them to create a platform where powerful drills can start digging the vertical tunnel that runs parallel to the borehole in which the toddler is trapped.
One of the drilling machines, which the Mail reported was one of the most powerful in Spain, was brought to the scene for the rescue operation. The third stage of the rescue will then see mine rescue experts dig out a 13-foot-long horizontal tunnel by hand from the point where the drills reach to get to Julen.
A special capsule capable of supporting the weight of two people and consisting of oxygen equipment has also been created to assist in bringing the two-year-old up from the hole if he is alive after a week without contact.
Rescuers have said the drilling might take 15 hours, but there could still be further setbacks because proper surveys of the area have not been carried out and rock underground could result in problems.
Meanwhile, many took to social media to pray for the safe rescue of little Julen and hoped for the best.
