NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On Tuesday, October 3, House Judiciary Committee member Matt Gaetz officially stripped out former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy by a tally of 216-210.

This began on Monday when Gaetz introduced a measure against McCarthy known as a motion to vacate, in which he accused the latter of reneging on promises he had made in order to become Speaker in January.

Tensions escalated during an hour-long debate preceding the actual vote on the motion to vacate, which took place on Tuesday.

During this time, eight Republicans sided with all Democrats to advance the measure. McCarthy's supporters had occupied all the microphones on the GOP side of the chamber, leaving Gaetz to present his case from the area traditionally occupied by Democrats.

Eight Republicans joined every present Democrat in voting to vacate the speaker's chair, resulting in a final vote of 216 to 210 in favor of ousting McCarthy from the position.

After successfully ousting McCarthy, Gaetz took to X to update his followers on his next action. However, the internet didn’t seem pleased with his brutal step against McCarthy and slammed him, calling it a “stunt.”

Matt Gaetz claims ‘fight is not over’ after Kevin McCarthy’s ousting

Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz took to X, formerly Twitter, and wrote, “The fight is not over. Now we must elect a Speaker.”

Gaetz further divulged on the next steps on ‘The Ingraham Angle’ where he said the “solutions” to conflicts in the Republican conference is quite easy.

He said, “We should get to electing a new, more conservative, more trustworthy speaker immediately.”

Currently, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry has taken over the role of acting speaker.

Gaetz further added while talking to Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham on ‘The Ingraham Angle’, “We should stay and elect a new speaker — that's the path ahead.”

“As far as the criticism that I worked with Democrats, the yellow brick road of working with Democrats was paved by Kevin McCarthy whether it was the debt limit deal, whether it was the continuing resolutions,” he concluded.
