NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: New York Democratic Rep Dan Goldman has found himself in hot water after denying the veracity of information discovered on Hunter Biden's laptop hard drive and reinstating an unfounded claim that the device contained Russian disinformation.

Goldman questioned “Twitter Files” journalist Michael Shellenberger about Hunter’s laptop during a Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government hearing, on Thursday, November 30.

"You’ve talked about the Hunter Biden laptop, and how the FBI knew it existed,” Goldman told Shellenberger, adding “You are aware, of course, that the laptop, so to speak, … that was published in the New York Post, was actually a hard drive that the New York Post admitted here was not authenticated as real.”

"It was not the laptop the FBI had. You’re aware of that right?” Goldman then asked to which the journalist replied “It was the same contents.”

How do you know?” the representative fired back, adding “You would have to authenticate it to know it was the same contents.”

"Are you suggesting the New York Post participated in a conspiracy to construct the contents of the Hunter Biden laptop?” Shellenberger inquired, according to Fox News.

Goldman then revived an unfounded theory, claiming that Hunter’s laptop hard drives “can be manipulated by Rudy Giuliani or Russia.”

"But what’s the evidence that happened?” Shellenberger again asked to which Goldman replied “But the point is, it’s not the same thing.”

"There’s no evidence of that, so you’re engaging in a conspiracy theory,” Shellenberger said, before being interrupted by Goldman, who said, “I’m glad you agree with me, Mr. Shellenberger, that transparency is the most important thing.”

The controversy around Hunter Biden’s laptop

When questioned about what information might have been "manipulated," a Goldman representative pointed The NY Post toward articles describing how some files on the hard drive were created after Hunter had dropped it off at a Wilmington, Delaware, computer repair shop in April 2019.

In an interview with "Real America's Voice" in April 2022, John Paul Mac Isaac, the shop owner, added that there had been "multiple attempts over the past year-and-a-half to insert questionable material into the laptop as in, not physically, but passing off this misinformation or disinformation as coming from the laptop.”

In December 2019, federal agents took possession of the laptop from the Delaware store, but not before Mac Isaac copied it and gave it to Giuliani's attorney at the time, Robert Costello.

In October 2020, Giuliani gave The NY Post a copy of the hard disk. Since then, the authenticity of the information contained in The Post's shocking reports has been repeatedly verified by independent studies published by the Washington Post, CBS News, the New York Times, and other media sites.

Eventually, Hunter Biden's lawyer acknowledged in February that his client owned the laptop, but its data had been “unlawfully” accessed by Mac Isaac.

Emails obtained from the laptop revealed the first son had leveraged the Biden family name to score a lucrative business deal with a Chinese energy conglomerate.

The communications also showed Hunter introduced his father, then serving as vice president, to a Burisma Holdings executive months before the elder Biden pressured Kyiv officials to fire an investigator looking into the Ukrainian natural gas company.

Internet reacts to Dan Goldman’s remarks

Goldman’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming him for denying the authenticity of information found on Hunter’s laptop.

“Dumb as a box of dirt 🤦‍♂️,” one user said. “He's even more of a liar than Adam Schiff. Hard to believe but it's true,” a second user slammed.

“Wow. That’s not even close to what he said…he said that hard drives can be manipulated, so does this mean that the @GOP can’t speak on politics without completely embarrassing themselves? So embarrassing being a Republican these days,” a third user wrote.

“You know what’s embarrassing? When the subject in question offers to testify in public, and you turn him down,” a fourth user fumed, while a fifth stated “He knows its real! Soo....What's Danny afraid of 😅😂.”

“These people are perpetually in denial Whenever they speak you interpret the opposite,” one more said.
