Red vs Blue on 'Hannity': Gavin Newsom slammed as he claims Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump are 'trying to light democracy on fire'

ALPHARETTA, GEORGIA: California Governor Gavin Newsom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have gone head to head in a Fox News debate, dubbed “The Great Red vs Blue State Debate,” hosted by Sean Hannity.

In this debate, one of Newsom’s first statements focused on the contrast between Biden-Harris and DeSantis. In addition to this, the governor of California also mentioned former President Donald Trump.

Newsom has claimed that DeSantis is on a “cultural purge” and he also stated that both, the Florida Gov and Trump, were “really trying to light democracy on fire.”

Gavin Newsom is ‘here to tell the truth’

Gavin Newsom made it clear at the beginning of the debate that he was not going to be a nominee of the Democratic party, but along with that, he also dragged Ron DeSantis down.

Newsom said, “I’m here to tell the truth about the Biden-Harris record and also compare and contrast Ron DeSantis’ record and the Republican Party’s record as a point of contrast that’s as different as daylight and darkness.”

Talking about the Republican party, he continued, “You want to bring us back to a pre-1960s world, America in reverse. You want to roll back hard-earned national rights, and voting rights and civil rights and LGBTQ rights, and women’s rights —not just access to abortion, but also access to contraception. You want to weaponize grievance.”

“You are focusing on false separateness,” said Newsom and then took aim directly at DeSantis as he added, “You, in particular, Ron, are on a banning binge, a cultural purge, intimidating and humiliating people you disagree with.”

The California Governor then mentioned former President Trump, while taking another dig at DeSantis, “You and President Trump are really trying to light democracy on fire, so Sean, there are profound differences tonight, and I look forward to engaging. But there’s one thing, in closing, that we have in common, is neither of us will be the nominee for our party in 2024.”

Internet reacts to Gavin Newsom’s remarks against Ron DeSantis

After Gavin Newsom took a jibe at Ron DeSantis and briefly called out Donald Trump during the Fox News debate hosted by Sean Hannity, the internet was not impressed.

One user alleged, “You’re the most disgusting liar around. Scum,” and another also accused the Governor of lying, writing, “Dude, you’re a liar.”

“Not doing so well Gavin...” noted one user. Another person declared, “Took a defiant L tonight bud. I'm not even a DeSantis voter and can say that.”

People continued to slam Newsom as one user also commented, “You're not telling the truth. You don't have the truth in you,” and another wrote, “You are getting wrecked Sir. Might have just ruined your career.”
