‘Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood’: Ray J flaunts his new dadbod and fans are body-shaming him
‘Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood’ season 6 premiered on August 5. The new season had a lot of new additions, rapper Micky Mounday made his debut on the show, as did Ray J and Princess Love’s daughter Melody. The show delivered a healthy dose of drama and catfights expected from it. But what caught the fans’ attention most was the encounter between Ray and Princess. Princess laments in the confessional about how, after having their daughter, the couple’s romantic life has fizzled. In order to spice things up, she invites Ray to a BDSM dungeon. Poor Ray looked terrified when he saw his wife with whips and paddles. She orders him to take off his clothes. When he reluctantly takes them off, we see that Ray has put on some weight.
While body-shaming women and more specifically making women feel bad about their weight has always been a norm, it was strange to see body-shaming and snide comments directed towards Ray’s weight gain. Fans didn’t hold back when it came to their judgment on his additional pounds. A fan wrote, “Ray j need to put them damn clothes back on! Fast lol #LHHH”. Few fans very meanly even commented that it appeared like Ray had a baby, suggesting that he was as fat as a pregnant woman. Ironically, Princess lost all her pregnancy weight. A fan commented, “Ray J done got fat.... I’m starting to wonder who was carrying the child. Her or him #LHHH”. Few fans were supportive of Ray’s weight. A fan shared, “I love Ray J’s new chubby body. It’s so cute #LHHH”. While another fan tweeted, “Ray J got that happy family weight. #LHHH”.
