The rapper's harsh comments and aggressive political stance seemed to be getting mixed reactions, with some fans agreeing with him wholeheartedly

Rapper Joey Bada$$ has come out swinging against President Donald Trump and his supporters. On June 4, the 25-year-old rapper called out the incompetence and blasé attitude of the nation's 45th president on social media. He even repurposed Trump's infamous Make America Great Again (MAGA) slogan to make some cutting remarks about those who still lent their support to the polarizing leader.

The Pro Era rapper called Trump's fanatical supporters a cult and even cooked up the derogatory acronym "MAGATS" for them, likening them to "maggots" or insect larva. That's certainly less than flattering and we're wondering how his fellow rapper and famous MAGA supporter, Kanye West, feels about this nomenclature. Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott aka Joey Bada$$ certainly lived up to his stage name by tweeting his defiant political stance, giving the Republican leader and his followers both barrels.

First, the rapper tweeted, "MAGA is a cult. Fully equipped with the God Complexed incompetent leader," referring to Trump's notorious ego and how his supporters deified him for his antics. Next, the star of 'Wu-Tang: An American Saga' (he plays the appropriately-named Rebel on the show) insulted Trump's unscrupulous followers directly, posting a follow-up tweet that read, "From now on we are referring to the aforementioned as MAGATS (pronounced MAGGOTS)."

That's a bit harsh surely, but the rapper's followers seemed to think his comments were on point. One fan said, "I completely agree. The roughly 30% of Americans that project this god-like piety on Trump have more in common with those who followed Jim Jones and Adolf Hitler in their respective ascendencies than anyone who studies this from sociological perspective would ever admit publicly." Another follower echoed his sentiments by saying, "Yet people always fall into these cults because they find a leader that epitomizes the oppressive thoughts they once thought were unique to themselves." Another fan liked the MAGA wordplay he had conjured up, saying, "4 years and this never crossed my mind till just now.... 4 years. Brilliant."

However, not everyone agreed with Bada$$. Other people were calling his views "stupid" and "sad", and some even posted comments like, "It’s really sad to see someone who I considered and intellectual say things like this. Donald Trump has done nothing but good for our country despite what you or anyone says. Facts speak for that. And the 'cult' side of things, look at the democrats for that." Another follower tweeted "If you don’t like America get the f*** out no one wants to hear you guys complain about freedom. Go see what it’s like to live somewhere else." As another Trump supporter quipped, "Can't stand a view other than your own, imagine that." In truth, that's the whole point of living in a democracy, having differing points of view on how this country should be governed. As long as we have freedom of speech, we're always going to see exchanges like these online — it's up to us as American citizens to make informed decisions on whom we elect into power.
