A rapist has been jailed for 11 years after he filmed himself brutally attacking a drunken, unconscious student before posting the video on Snapchat.

22-year-old Aziz Khan reportedly met the woman during a night out in Newcastle-under-Lyme before taking her back to his place and filming the assault, Daily Mail reports.

The Staffordshire University student, who was described as an "opportunist" who had preyed on women in the past, boasted to his friends of his "conquest" after the incident. The "really drunk" victim was partying with her friends in Revolution Bar before moving on to The Kiln, the Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard.

According to prosecutor Robert Price, the victim handed her bag and phone to a friend for safekeeping before she was separated from the group "in the haze of drink." Soon after, she met Khan, who took her back to his house in Stoke.

"The defendant raped her and, as he did, he filmed the act on his mobile phone," Price said. "It shows a young lady unconscious and immobile through intoxication being raped by a male making grunting noises. She had no idea where she was, who she was with, or what she was doing. She was not capable of making decisions or consenting to any form of sexual activity."

The victim was asked to leave the defendant's house at 4 am and knocked on the neighboring house soliciting help, the court heard. The neighbor, who saw her slide down a brick wall onto her bottom, helped her to her feet and into a taxi cab.

The defendant showed his friends the 10-second video of the rape the following day, bragging about having sex with her. While the victim had no recollection of what had happened the previous night, she later became aware of the video and informed the police.

Now, the victim has said she feels physically sick on a daily basis, experiencing profound fatigue, sleep deprivation, and flashbacks. She said she feels dirty, ashamed and angry and once even overdosed on tablets. The harrowing ordeal has had a detrimental impact on her family and has led to her leaving her university course.

In court, Khan pleaded guilty to rape and disclosing private sexual photos or films with intent to cause distress. Prosecutor Price read out an account of Khan's character as told by a friend who was out with him on the night of the assault.

"He told police as a general rule Khan had one topic on his mind and that was sex," he said. "He described him as a sleaze and a pest and he formed the view Khan was a bit weird with women. Khan was the ultimate opportunist and he took advantage of the victim who was vulnerable and incapable through drink. She was completely intoxicated."

Barry White, mitigating, said Khan's offenses have had a scathing effect on his family. "He has found it difficult to admit what he has done," White said. "Since this happened, he has not had alcohol or gone out." According to him, the defendant's pleas forced the victim not to give evidence during the trial.

Judge David Fletcher gave an indefinite restraining order to the defendant, preventing him from contacting his victim or her family, and sentenced him to 11 years and two months.

"It is quite clear when you got in the taxi you were fully aware of the extreme state of intoxication," Judge Fletcher told Khan. "You had only one thing on your mind — sex. You had sexual intercourse with her without her consent, and on the basis of the very disturbing video footage, without her knowledge. She had not got a clue about what was happening to her. She was not in a conscious state at all. You filmed it in the most graphic detail."

He continued: "You pushed her out. You did not go into the street with her to make sure the taxi was going to take her safely home. All you could do was shout down from the roof above — the behavior of a callous coward. You showed your friend the video. Within 24 hours, you showed it to another person. The video's existence became general knowledge. This is a serious case."

Khan was placed on the sex offenders' register for life and is due to serve half his sentence with the rest on a license.

Detective Constable Ann Blairs, of Staffordshire Police CID, spoke after the sentencing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, saying, "This was a very serious offense and Khan will serve a prison sentence for what he has done. I want to commend the victim for having the courage to come forward and have the confidence in us to bring this case before the courts. I also want to thank her family and friends for their support."
