'Rape of 2 Coreys': Corey Feldman cuts hair, places it at Corey Haim's grave after 'finding justice for him'
In the final minutes of '(My) Truth: The Rape of the Two Coreys', which debuted Monday night at a screening in Los Angeles, Corey Feldman is seen holding on to his trademark strand of hair as he makes his way to late friend Corey Haim's grave. The strand had an important place in the relationship between the two men, and the moment is the culmination of what Feldman promised to his late friend: Getting justice for him.
In the tell-all documentary, Feldman reveals the secret behind his characteristic strand of hair that cascaded down his face in what many considered a strange fashion choice. According to the 'Lost Boys' star, it was a tribute to his dear friend Haim, who tragically died of pneumonia on March 10, 2010.
"It was a weird fashion choice," Feldman begins. "I got really short, chopped up hair and then this one long piece."
Two days after getting his hair styled as described — albeit purely on a whim — the 48-year-old star met with Haim, who purportedly loved the look so much he insisted Feldman to keep it as his "signature" style. "He's like, 'What's up with the hair man? I like it. I think it's really dope,'" the 'Stand By Me' star recalled, quoting his best friend. "And I was like, 'Really?"
"Yeah, for real!" Haim responded. "Out of all the things you've ever done, this is, like, your signature bro. I think you should keep that."
"Interesting," Feldman noted. "Well, maybe I will!"
Haim died shortly after giving Feldman the friendly heads-up. And while it may have been just a passing conversation between two friends at the time, Haim's advice stuck with Feldman for years to come — until it took on a whole new meaning for the 'License To Drive' star.
"I think there's something in this [strand of hair] that I've always felt a connection to him," Feldman said of his late friend. "I think that this represents finding justice for him in some way. And when I feel like I've done my job, then I'll cut it off."
At some point during the filming of 'The Two Coreys', Haim allegedly made Feldman promise he would "tell his story" if "something happened to him."
'(My) Truth: The Rape of the Two Coreys' is essentially Feldman keeping that promise, as he later explains in the film. It is the result of a lifelong quest to expose the devious sexual abuse and pedophilia that plagues Hollywood — a grim side of the otherwise bright-and-glistening Tinseltown that ultimately squeezed the life out of his best friend.
In the final minutes of the documentary, an emotional Feldman is seen holding on to the strand of hair as he makes his way to Corey Haim's grave. Upon reaching his tombstone, the 48-year-old pens a letter to his "heart" that is Haim, writing, "I kept my promise."
He then proceeds to grab that remarkable curl of hair, chops it off, and wraps it inside the letter before placing it on his grave — it's his gift to a dear friend who was snatched from him too soon.
"You Know, all of these tributes and nods to Corey — they're not because I have nothing else to write about or that I want some attention," Feldman explains. "It's because this is my heart."
"I loved that man. He was my partner. He was my brother. He was my best friend," he concludes.
