'Ralph Breaks the Internet': First look at Gal Gadot's character - Shank
While Shank herself is quite appealing, her aura is a continuous reminder of the Gisele who was probably one of the most beloved characters in the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise.
'Ralph Breaks the Internet' has released its third trailer, and we cannot help but wonder if the badass Shank is actually a reincarnation of the same Gisele who had completely swept us off our feet in the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise. While both characters have been played by Gal Gadot, there are several other startling similarities between the two.
Let's take a look at the trailer first:
After giving us a glimpse into the world of the internet where Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) interact with the Disney Princesses in a rather awkward first meet, the third trailer takes us deeper into the world of the wide web, including a short glimpse into the darknet.
While Ralph is surrounded by trollers who clearly believe that the internet was solely made to pass on cat and baby videos, following which Ralph himself seems to become a popular internet meme, Vanellope, on the other hand, comes across a whole new world of cool cars and underground racers. Sounds familiar? Wait, until you hear Gal Gadot's voice for the character, Shank.
The leather-clad, lean figured racer, with soft brunette hair and wide eyes is almost like a reflection of the amiable Gisele whom we had met in the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise (parts 5-7).
Introduced in 'Fast Five,' Gisele, high-edged marksmanship and woman who, once behind the wheels, could give the best racers a good run for their money. Throughout her presence in the movie, Gisele's character has acted as a catalyst to the plot, especially when she gives out Braga's hideout location to Dom and the rest of the team. As fearless as she has always been, Gisele didn't bat a single eyelid when it came to sacrificing herself in order to save her friend.
Although we still do not know Shank's entire backstory, however, through the trailer it can be assumed that she is equally fearless and passionate. While the scene where Vanellope and Shank race each other by drifting through tiny lanes, and speeding up on a broken highway showcase their immense love for cars and racing, it also reminds us of the scene where Gisele almost got close to being invisible while driving.
In 'Fast Five,' when the whole crew creates a mock-up of the track in order to test whose car would be the fastest (such that it is almost invisible), Gisele turns out to be the swiftest of them all, as she takes some really clean, and steep turns.
Take a look at the clip below:
Probably the one other thing that seems to be in common between the two characters is their kindness. In one of the deleted scenes from 'Furious 7,' Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) realizes that it was Gisele who had saved her life even when the two weren't really close. Also, Gisele chose to take her own life in order to protect Han (Sung Kang) when she saw that he was being distracted by her.
Although we do not see Shank doing any such sacrifices, there are certain moments in the clip where she certainly seems to consider Vanellope as a friend. In fact, she also gives out a piece advice to Vanellope who is in a dilemma about staying in the world of the internet or going back to the arcade.
Shank, however, certainly seems to enjoy Vanellope's company as her face clearly reflects admiration for the latter's driving skills. Although it is all only an assumption, it cannot be denied that Gisele's character is like an inspiration for Shank, or maybe Shank is Gisele - brought back to life on the internet.
Disney releases 'Ralph Breaks the Internet' in theaters on November 21, and it's hard for us to wait to find out more about this character who is 20% angel and 80%, devil.
