Raleigh shooting gunman: 'White male juvenile' hid inside home for hours after killing five
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA: Four civilians and an off-duty police officer were left dead after a shooting incident at Raleigh on Thursday. Raleigh Police Department has identified a juvenile suspect and have taken him into custody. The details of the shooter have not been released due to his age.
According to a report by The Independent, the gunman is said to be a teenage boy wearing camouflage. The teen was at large for hours before being “confined” in a house at around 8 pm; police arrested him one and a half hours after the shooting. After being taken into custody, the suspect was taken to WakeMed Hospital. No information is available yet about his motive or any conditions. The shooting occurred near the Neuse River Greenway, a popular trail on the outskirts of Raleigh.

Authorities have stated that of the two civilians that were injured, one has been discharged while the other victim remains in critical condition, reports FOX News. There was a tweet from the Raleigh Police Department a short while after the incident, providing scared citizens an update about the scenario. The tweet reads, “The Raleigh Police Department is currently on the scene of an active shooting in the area of the Neuse River Greenway near Osprey Cove Drive and Bay Harbor Drive. Residents in that area are advised to remain in their homes.”

Mary-Ann Baldwin, Mayor of Raleigh also had released a statement in the wake of the incident. She states that one of those injured in the shooting is a K9 officer and that the Police Department had made it to the scene shortly after 5 pm.
She then said during the press conference, "We need to support those in our community who have suffered a terrible loss, a loss of a loved one. We need to support the family of the police officer who was killed and also the police officer who was shot. It's a tragic day because Raleigh police have lost one of its own. I just want to thank the extraordinary officers of the Raleigh Police Department, who even now, right now, are protecting us and putting themselves in harm's way to arrest the suspect.” North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper also tweeted with regards to the shooting, stating that he has reached out to Raleigh law enforcement authorities and provided assurance that officers are working to keep people safe.

A few hours later, Governor Cooper posted another tweet, which reads, "The swift and coordinated efforts of local and state law enforcement have the suspect in custody and we are thankful for their efforts. We mourn for the victims of this horrific and infuriating act of violence. - RC" The gunman, a "white male juvenile", was taken into custody, police said.
