JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA: Bursey Armstrong, 33, a Jacksonville man was arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Tasheka Young, on Sunday, July 24. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on Saturday at Mission Pointe Apartments in North Jacksonville where they found the body of Young.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced that Bursey Armstrong was charged with second-degree murder. Neighbors said they heard the duo arguing for hours, leading up to Saturday night’s murder. According to the arrest report, Armstrong used a handgun, but the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed how Young was murdered or the motive behind the killing. Armstrong was denied bond after the judge said there was substantial probable cause.

Power 106.1, her previous employer, expressed condolences in an Instagram post: "Our hearts are broken this morning 💔Tasheka Young, “Tysheeks”, was a spirited, ambitious, and loved part of the Power 106.1 family for many years. She loved her job, her community, and most of all her family. Her voice will never be forgotten and we pray for her and her family." Young was a radio personality in Jacksonville before leaving the business to become a teacher. She graduated from Bethune Cookman University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree. She had two children and was pregnant at the time of her death.

According to Action News Jax, Marc Dixon, or “DJ Nailz,” said “She was the strong friend that everyone ran to talk to and she was the person people trusted a lot”. Dixon went to school with Young and also worked for the same company, Cox Media Group (CMG), which also owns Action News Jax. CMG also said, “Power 106.1 was saddened to learn about the passing of our former colleague, Tasheka Young. We want to offer our condolences to Tasheka’s loved ones.”

Quigley House, a domestic violence center in Green Cove Springs, said murder is the leading cause of death against pregnant women. “The mere fact that a child is coming into the world and that child is going to require attention. Those are factors that can contribute to somebody feeling fear of losing control of the situation,” Jennifer Rodriguez, the CEO, said. “When your vulnerability increases, the lethality of your situation increases.”

As reported by News4JAX ,Young’s friend said they are devastated by her murder and now await justice. Sequoyah Glenn said Young was like family to her. She met her at Power 106.1 and is among hundreds of people that are grieving Young’s murder. “She was like a big sister,” Glenn said. Young’s friends said she gave up her radio career to raise her two children and fell in love with teaching. Glenn holds on to memories of her beloved friend at the radio station and through life’s journey. “Tasheka, she truly changed my life. She has a way of drawing those things out of you, you may not know is in you. She was a cheerleader for me. Me learning the ends and outs of radio,” Glenn said. “She loved her coworkers. She loved life. She loved Duval. I’m just glad I had her for as long as I did.” Another one of Young’s former coworkers, who didn’t want to be identified, said she was a hard worker and loyal friend. Young visited him and his family a week ago.

A post on Armstrong’s Facebook page on July 22, the day before Young was found dead, reads “When you know what you want, or what’s in your best interest, sometimes it’s best to walk by yourself…no friends, no family, no significant other…just a person and God.” Armstrong’s arraignment is on August 16.
