Rachel McAdams poses with breast pump while wearing Versace to break motherhood taboos

Rachel McAdams is known for her notoriously private demeanor, and when it comes to her role as a mother, it's more so. The actress, who welcomed a son back in April this year, has chosen to still not disclose the name of her baby, let alone post a picture of the toddler.

However, the actress recently posed for a powerful image during a shoot for Girls Girls Girls magazine. The shoot features the 'Mean Girls' actress wearing two breast milk pumps and a dazzling Bvlgari diamond necklace in the same frame.

The actress, decked in a Versace gown, was doing her bit to break certain motherhood taboos in society. And while a whole lot of things are currently in motion to normalize the taboo behind breastfeeding, we still have a long way to go.

Magazine founder Claire Rothstein shared the Instagram image on Wednesday and accompanied it with a lovely and impassioned comment. She typed: "Just sharing this image from my account which I think encapsulates @girls.girls.girls.magazine and what we stand for... A million reasons why I wanted to post this picture."

"Obviously #rachelmcadams looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with but also this shoot was about six months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots, she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding. We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about who’s idea it was to take this picture but I’m still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more."

Claire continued: "Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world, like breathing and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of. I don’t even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that’s great."

She concluded by saying, "Besides she’s wearing Versace and @bulgariofficial diamonds and is just f***ing major. Big shout out to all the girls. Side note: I did not look anywhere near as fabulous as this when feeding/pumping. And that’s ok too."

McAdams gave birth to a baby boy in April with her screenwriter boyfriend Jamie Linden but is yet to disclose his name, and has reportedly wished to "keep his life private, even if hers isn't." Being extremely elusive about her pregnancy, the actress said in a recent interview, "It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, hands down. [People say] your life is not your own anymore. But I had 39 years of me, I was sick of me, I was so happy to put the focus on some other person."
