NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Jamaal Bowman (D-NY 16th District) has become the center of attention after pulling a fire alarm at the House during the Stopgap spending bill vote.

What he has alleged to be a mistake could have caused a nationwide government shutdown, making Bowman the subject of a thorough investigation.

'Fox & Friends' weekends host Rachel Campos-Duffy slammed the Democrat and refused to believe his statement in response to the incident.

She also went on to compare his supposed attempt at a voting disruption to the January 6 Capitol Attack.

Jamaal Bowman defends fire alarm incident as a mere 'mistake'

On Saturday, the US government was just hours away from a complete shutdown over a spending bill that had not reached a conclusion.

The shutdown would have caused millions of federal employees and military personnel to go unpaid with most government services getting suspended.

During the voting over a short-term temporary bill, Bowman caused a fire alarm to go off, causing disruption led by evacuation at the House.

This incident has been seen as an attempt to intentionally delay the voting and to reach the impending shutdown.

Fortunately, the shutdown was dodged in the last hour as Congress was able to sign a bill that would keep the government funded until November 17, 2023.

In a statement released in response to the incident, Bowman admitted to pulling the fire alarm but by mistake.

"I am embarrassed to admit that I activated the fire alarm, mistakenly thinking it would open the door," the statement said.

It further read, "I regret this and sincerely apologize for any confusion this caused. But I want to be very clear, this was not me, in any way, trying to delay any vote."

Rachel Campos-Duffy calls Bowman's statement a 'blatant lie'

'Fox & Friends' weekends hosts Campos-Duffy and Pete Hegseth were quick to claim Bowman's statement to be a complete lie.

They emphasized that Bowman's "mistake" was an attempt at disrupting an official proceeding and that it comes with a six-month penalty.

Here, Campos-Duffy made a comparison between this incident to former President Donald Trump's supporters attacking the Capitol on January 6, 2021, when Joe Biden's election victory was getting certified.

"Many people sitting in DC prisons right now from January 6 because they disrupted an official proceeding," the Fox News host said via Mediaite.

"Some of them in solitary confinement for nonviolent crimes, for just having been in the building," she added.

She also falsely claimed that the attackers "had no weapons" while the attackers have been found guilty or are still being investigated for carrying firearms besides other weapons.

"I really hope that the Republicans understand that they have to go all the way on this," Capos-Duffy added,

"They need an investigation, they need to get his phone. We know the FBI took the photo of another congressman during the January 6 investigation. Take his phone, see who he was communicating with, if it was coordinated in any way," she said.
