Queen Elizabeth II was seen sporting one of her favorite brooches while giving her Christmas Day speech in order to convey a hidden message, an academic has claimed.

While the Queen, 93, usually takes a neutral stance when it comes to politics, some experts are of the opinion that her annual Christmas message to the nation hinted at her own personal views on the Brexit scenario. For her speech that had been pre-recorded at the Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth wore a royal blue cashmere dress and a sapphire and diamond brooch.

Academics believe that this is her way of showing support for remaining in the European Union given her outfit's similarity to the EU flag. The brooch had originally been a gift from Prince Albert to Queen Victoria on the eve of their 1840 wedding. The brooch features a deep blue stone that is surrounded by 12 diamonds.

While taking to Twitter, academic Dr James Anderson wrote, "The Queen has full editorial control of the Queen’s Speech and can choose whether or not to give one. She chose not to in 1969. So treat the speech as her personal views, right down to her choice of an EU blue dress and an EU stars brooch."

Dr Geoff Jones shared a picture of the Queen during her speech and wrote, "Her Majesty yet again doing what little she can to show her support for the European Union." Another user had pointed out how she had sported the same brooch while addressing the European Parliament in 1992.

During her speech, the Queen had described 2019 as 'quite bumpy'. She was referring to Prince Andrew's disastrous interview with BBC about his links to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The Queen was also referring to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's struggle of being in the public eye and the feud between Prince Harry and his brother Prince William.

'The path is not always smooth, and may at times this year have felt quite bumpy, but small steps can make a world of difference," the Queen had shared.
