Vladimir Putin said that he is not ready to acknowledge or recognize Joe Biden as the winner of the US presidential election until the results have been confirmed in a "legitimate, legal way".

Putin shared that he is willing to work with any president of the United States but had pointed out that the opposing party including the current POTUS Donald Trump has not accepted the results yet.

While speaking during a Sunday appearance on Russian TV, Putin shared, "We will work with anyone who has the confidence of the American people. But that confidence can only be given to a candidate whose victory has been has been recognized by the opposing party, or after the results are confirmed in a legitimate, legal way."

The comments by Putin had been made even though other world leaders from around the globe have congratulated Biden on his election win. Trump has filed lawsuits that contest Biden's win and the 2020 elections claiming voter fraud but having no substantial evidence to back up his claims. Ever since the election result was called on November 7, Trump has refused to concede and has been set on his claims of voter fraud which he believes cost him the election.

Putin shared that his decision not to congratulate Biden on his win was "a formality" and had no ulterior motives, as per Bloomberg. He also asked whether he thought his hesitation would spoil US-Russia relations to which he responded saying, "There's nothing to damage; they're already ruined."

Many social media users commented on Putin's stance and slammed him. One such user shared, "Denial stage of grieving. Probably can't believe how we the people triumphed over him." Another added, "Putin is waiting to see if Trump is successful overthrowing the US Government and handing it to him."

"Of course he isn’t. Undermining democracy, dividing the people, flooding them with lies and conspiracies is in his best interest. Just like Trump, who knows he lost, but wants to further destabilize the country as much as he still can. Sadly most people they target don’t see it," wrote another.

Putin's comments come after former POTUS Barack Obama revealed in his new memoir that when the two leaders had met in 2009, Putin had gone on a 45-minute rant about America. As per a publishing source, the memoir alleges that during a breakfast meeting, "Putin launched into a 'seemingly endless' diatribe about every single perceived injustice that he and the Russian people suffered at the hands of America."

"Putin said he liked President George W Bush personally and reached out after the September 11 attacks, to pledge his solidarity and had even offered Russia’s help in handling Saddam Hussein. But he said Bush went and invaded Iraq and accused him of destabilizing the entire Middle East."

"The staffers who accompanied Obama to the meeting tried to cut it short when Putin was about thirty minutes into the rant," the memoir alleges. "But Obama describes how he decided not to interrupt as it appeared that Putin had rehearsed the entire thing. It was 45 minutes before he finally stopped and Obama answered him point by point in what turned into a marathon two-hour conversation."
