Harry has been appointed as the Chief Impact Officer of the Silicon Valley startup called BetterUp. It is a coaching and a mental health firm and this will be Harry's first real-world job since he stepped down as a "senior royal member" of the British monarchy and moved to the US.

Alexi Robichaux founded the firm in 2013 and it has since grown to employ more than 270 employees and boasts a network of over 2000 coaches. In February 2021, BetterUp announced that it had raised $125 million in funding from venture capitalists, which resulted in the company being valued at $1.73 billion.

What role will Harry plays in BetterUp?

As the chief impact officer of the San Francisco-based startup, Harry will advocate for the importance of maximizing human potential across the globe. In a blog post on Betterup, Harry wrote, "I firmly believe that focusing on and prioritizing our mental fitness unlocks potential and opportunity that we never knew we had inside of us," and added "As the Royal Marine Commandos say, 'It's a state of mind.' We all have it in us."

The Duke of Sussex also said to Wall Street Journal in an email, "I intend to help create impact in people’s lives. Proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness, and an all-around better life." They also reported that Harry will be taking on this "meaty" role a year after he stepped down as an active senior royal on the payroll.

It was also revealed that Harry will not interact with the employees. However, he will be a part of events and attend headquarters meetings once Covid restrictions lift.

How much will Harry be paid?

So far, it has not been revealed how much Harry will be paid. While speaking of Harry's role Robichaux refused to reveal his salary but did say that during his conversation between himself and Harry, it became clear “that we hold a similar philosophy on mental health: that we must proactively take care of our minds.”

However, if one were to go by the salary offered in other companies at Silicon Valley for a similar role, it is speculated that Harry will receive a seven-figure salary, at the very least.

Is Harry a good fit for the job?

After the announcement from BetterUp, many online speculated that this was a publicity stunt and that Harry was not fit for the role. Robichaux spoke to Associated Press and said, "Prince Harry has been one of the the the fiercest advocates for mental wellness or mental fitness for many years." The example that he cited was Harry's work for Head Fit, a service he launched in partnership with the UK Ministry of Defense. “This has been a big part of his personal life’s journey and his personal life’s mission.” He also did not deny that having Harry onboard wouldn't hurt as he is one of most famous men in the world right now.
