Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be stripped of their royal title as thousands in Sussex sign petition

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could lose their Sussex titles as thousands of residents signed a petition that is being regarded as showing "disdain for The Crown", a royal expert shared.
According to a report by Express, Charles Ross, a local campaigner, started the petition to strip Meghan and Harry of their "unfairly acquired title" which had only six signatures back in August.
However, the number of signatures has drastically increased and the petition has around 3,881 signatures at present. In fact, Brighton and Hove councilors will be considering whether they will reject the current usage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.
The titles have been claimed to have been "disrespectful to the county of East Sussex". The main reason behind the backlash was that their titles are "non-democratic" and are a "symbol of oppression by the wealthy elite".
The petition also goes on to advise that the Brighton Council neither "invite or entertain these individuals nor afford them any courtesies".
However, it is evident that not everyone is in agreement with the petition. Thomas Mace-Archer Mills, who founded the British Monarchists Society, slammed the witch hunt against Harry and Meghan.
While doing an interview with the Mirror, Archer Mills shared, "We are utterly dismayed that said petition has been signed by so many."

"This certainly highlights that Brighton and Hove is a hotbed of Republican dissidents and is now proven to be so. Such a petition shows utter disdain and contempt for The Crown, not to mention copious amounts of disrespect to, and for, the Royal family."
Despite the public outrage, Brighton and Hove's council were among the first few to congratulate the royal couple on tying the knot. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have visited the county only once in October 2018 when they had attended a Survivors’ Network charity in Brighton.
It is not possible for the council to remove the titles from the pair given that they had been gifted by the Queen when they got married. Meghan is the first-ever Duchess of Sussex while Harry is the first Duke of Sussex in 175 years.
