Trump lays out 'all American' fast food spread at White House for Clemson Tigers, pays from his own pocket
President Donald Trump laid out an "all American" feast of burgers, fries, and pizzas for the Clemson Tigers, a college football team, who won the national championship over the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The team was reportedly invited by the president to the White House on Monday after their win. Reports state that amidst the ongoing partial government shutdown — the longest in the US history — Trump personally paid for the feast as nearly half of the White House chefs were furloughed.
"We ordered American fast food. Paid for by me. Lots of hamburgers, lots of pizza, I think they'd like it better than anything we could give," Trump said of the event. Reports state that the fast food laid out during the event was ordered from McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King and Domino's.
