Donald Trump cheers Covington student's $250 million lawsuit against Washington Post

President Trump tweeted support for the Kentucky teen suing the newspaper, saying "Go get them Nick."
UPDATED FEB 20, 2019

President Trump spurred on a Kentucky high school student who was involved in a widely discussed and disseminated encounter with a Native American activist last month after learning that his lawyers were suing The Washington Post.

The Post was accused of practicing "a modern-day form of McCarthyism" by targeting student Nicholas Sandmann and "using its vast financial resources to enter the bully pulpit by publishing a series of false and defamatory print and online articles ... to smear a young boy who was in its view an acceptable casualty in their war against the president," according to a lawsuit filed in a federal court in Kentucky, Fox News reports.

The lawsuit is allegedly seeking over $250 million in compensatory and punitive damages, prompting Trump to throw his support behind Sandmann. The US leader tweeted early Wednesday morning, “Covington student suing WaPo. Go get them, Nick. Fake News!”
