'Platform': Release date, plot, cast and everything else about the FX anthology series created by 'The Office' star BJ Novak
'The Office' and 'The Mindy Project' alum B.J. Novak is set to dazzle us again with his new anthology series 'Platform'. The actor-writer-director-producer has secured a pilot order from FX for this original series.
While Novak will write, direct and executive produce the show, he will not be starring in it. Each half-hour episode will be a stand-alone featuring different actors and stories, much like the popular 'Black Mirror' format. FX Productions will produce the series.
Release Date:
The series began filming on July 29 but a release date is yet to be announced. Watch this space for updates.
Plot:
The series will take up the "boldest" current issues and use them to explore singular, character-driven stories. The pilot order for the series consists of two episodes with very different treatments. The first episode will be dramatic, focusing on a tough subject matter, while the second one will be a comedy and include some animation elements.
Cast:
The first episode will star actor Lucas Hedges (Lady Bird, Manchester by the Sea). Jon Bernthal, famous for his role on 'The Walking Dead' has also been cast along with Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart). Other cast members include Boyd Holbrook, O'Shea Jackson Jr., George Wallace and Ed Asner. Casting details for episode 2 haven't been announced yet.
Creator:
BJ Novak will write, direct and executive produce the new series. Novak played the toxic "temp" on 'The Office' from 2005-13. He was one of the show's writers along with Greg Daniels, Michael Schur, Paul Lieberstein and co-star Mindy Kaling.
He has written, directed and exec produced the Fox/Hulu comedy, 'The Mindy Project', from 2013-16, doing a few cameos as the ex-boyfriend of the show's lead, Kaling. He has also authored the 2014 New York Times bestseller 'One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories'.
