While the process of rescuing a dog can often be a slow, steady and constant process, there are some situations in which speed is of the essence. On the next episode of 'Pit Bulls & Parolees,' Tia Torres is going to have to move as fast as she can. Racing against the clock, Tia is making her way to four very special dogs. Her mission? To save them from being euthanized before it's too late.

Tia Torres and the Villalobos Rescue Center is used to thinking of themselves as the last chances for many of the dogs in New Orleans, but in this case, it is literally true. Approximately 670,000 dogs are euthanized in shelters across the US each year. While many of these deaths are out of necessity, due either to a dog's untreatable sickness or due to its advanced age, a lot of the time dogs are put down due to nothing more than the sake of convenience, as shelters are overcrowded and more dogs just keep coming in. This time, Tia is not standing for it and the yearly count of approximately 670,000 dogs is about to become four less.

The episode is titled 'Last Chance Rescue' and it's not just the four dogs scheduled for euthanization who are being given one extra chance. Villalobos has always been about giving new chances to those caught in the prison system, giving parolees and pit bulls alike the chance to take care of and save each other. This episode will be a special pit bulls and prisoners show for one special canine, as it becomes a part of a special dog program at a Pennsylvania prison. While pets aren't generally allowed for prisoners, this program might be just what the doctor ordered for thousands of prisoners seeking some connection while being trapped behind bars.

Finally, the episode will also see Mariah and Toney help a dog get over its nerves and connect to an all-new adopter and find a new home. Together they will coax the poor pet out of its shell just enough to find a new place of love for the dog to spend the rest of its days in. The official synopsis for the episode reads, "Tia races to a rural shelter in Louisiana to rescue four dogs from euthanasia; Mariah and Toney give a scared, shy dog a shot at a forever home; a unique canine gets a chance at a dog program in a Pennsylvania prison."

This episode of 'Pit Bulls & Parolees' airs August 22, on Animal Planet.
