SCHOOLCRAFT, MICHIGAN: A six-year-old boy has luckily survived after being savagely attacked by the family’s beloved pet dog. Camdon Bozell was severely injured in April by a five-year-old pit bull named Chaos at his grandmother’s home in Schoolcraft, Michigan.

According to reports, the incident happened when Camdon got up to get a snack and the animal attacked him. Luckily, the child’s grandmom heard his screams and saved him from Chaos. The school going kid underwent plastic surgery to repair his face and has been left with permanent scars following the nightmare. The paramedics said the injuries that Camdon suffered was the worst thing they had ever seen.

The mother of the young boy, Tristin, who now lives in Plainwell, Michigan, has warned other parents to not leave kids alone with pet dogs. She also said that earlier to the horrific attack, she had never seen the pit bull behaving aggressively. Sharing her experience, Tristin said: “When I got to the hospital, I feared the worst. They wouldn’t let me see Camdon at first and then a nurse came out and said ‘good news he’s breathing on his own’ and I freaked out – I thought why wouldn’t he be? If the dog had attacked him an inch or two below and got Camdon’s throat, my son would be dead.

“The dog was not even an inch from his eyes. I’m just happy his ears and eyes were okay. The first responders said it was the worse thing they had ever seen. And it was the worse day of my life. I spent a month crying for Camdon.”

Reports claimed that on the day of the attack, the mother-of-two left Camdon in the care of the relative after being called into work last minute. But soon she received a phone call from police who told her that the child had been attacked by the family dog and was being rushed to a hospital. After the call, Tristin went to  Michigan’s Bronson Hospital, an hour and a half hour drive away from her office, where her son was admitted. But she was not immediately allowed to meet the boy. She had to spend more than 30 minutes in the waiting room, expecting the worse.

“I was panicking and crying after I got the call. I was shaking. I could barely drive. After waiting for half an hour, I got to see him briefly but they had wrapped his face in gauze. I didn’t know the extent of his injuries until he came out of surgery. And then I was in shock. I couldn’t believe that this dog did so much damage to my son,” Tristin said. “The friendly dog had been around kids for its entire life and never shown any signs of aggression. He was called Chaos, but that name did not suit his temperament at all.”

The mother had to spend three days in the hospital with Camdon since his face needed to be reconstructed. The young boy will need extra surgery in the future to rebuild his nose due to tissue loss.

Meanwhile, police ordered the pit bull to be put down and Camdon's aunt, Becky Rose, launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her nephew's medical bills. The page raised $39,142, way more than the goal that was $2,000.

Tristin said, “We will never know why Chaos attacked Camdon. Was it because he got up too quickly? Did he want the snack Camdon had picked up? The scars don’t bother Camdon but people stare in the grocery store and that upsets him, especially when they ask what happened. The trauma is not over. It’s going to be something that we’re going to deal with for the rest of his life.”
