Phil Spector seen sporting goatee, shaved head in mugshot 10 years after being convicted of murdering actress
Disgraced Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Phillip Harvey Spector had earned quite a reputation for himself during his murder trial after turning out in a procession of eccentric wigs. And it looks like h continues to experiment with his hair behind bars as well.
The 79-year-old, who is currently serving a sentence of 19-to-life at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation over the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson, was pictured in his most recent mugshot sporting a completely bald look.
Spector had seemingly shaved off a previously thinning crop of hair visible in previous mugshots in favor of a goatee for the snap, which was taken at the California Health Care Facility in Stockton on November 19.
He was also wearing a hearing aid that was first seen in a jailhouse picture from 2017. He seems relatively in good spirits as his 80th birthday approaches on December 26, flashing a wide smile for the camera.
The photo in stark contrast to the picture from 2014 when he looked thinner and paler and was staring coldly into the camera.
Spector, considered to be one of the most influential figures in pop music history for his development of the 'Wall of Sound' and contributions to the art pop and art rock genres, found himself as the main accused in the murder of Clarkson, then 40, after she was found dead at his 'Pyrenees Castle' property in 2003.
He had reportedly met the struggling actress at a Hollywood nightclub where she had been working as a hostess and invited her back to the Alhambra mansion.
Later that night, she suffered a single gun-shot to the mouth, and her teeth were found scattered all over the floor.
Spector insisted to police, and in interviews, that Clarkson's death was "an accidental suicide" and that she had tried to "kiss the gun" before it inadvertently went off.
During his trial, he earned infamy after showing up to his hearings in an array of different and over-the-top wigs, something his biographer claimed was a result of the producer getting hundreds of stitches in his head and face following a 1974 accident.
His first trial eventually ended with a deadlocked jury, though a jury in a second trial in 2009 found him guilty of second-degree murder, following which he was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison.
The 'Pyrenees Castle' went on the market for $5.5 million in March this year as part of a divorce settlement with his wife Rachelle Short, whom he married just before his first trial in 2006.
Spector will be eligible to apply for parole in 2028 when he will be 88 years old.
