Peter Spencer killing was 'self-defense', no charges filed after Jamaican man was shot NINE times
Pennsylvania authorities have justified the death of Black Jamaican immigrant Peter Spencer as self-defense and confirmed that no charges will be filed. Spencer was shot nine times during a hunting trip last December. Reportedly, Spencer's family disagrees with the Venango County district attorney’s decision but are “not surprised” by it.
“This is the type of behavior we have seen from the [Pennsylvania] state police and Venango County district attorney from the outset,” The Daily Beast quoted attorney Paul Jubas as saying. He also said that a press conference about the decision will be held by the family next week.

A Black Jamaican immigrant, Spencer was shot dead on December 12 after being dropped off by his pregnant fiancée in a remote area of Rockland County for a hunting trip. Spencer was on the trip with a friend and former co-worker, who is White, as well as four other men. The co-worker shot Spencer dead several hours into the trip and the men later claimed that it was self-defense.
According to District Attorney Shawn White, Spencer took hallucinogenic mushrooms on the trip and was “acting crazy" and firing off an AK-47. Witnesses said that he was killed after he asked one of the men to get down on the ground at gunpoint and pointed the gun at his friend, White said. Spencer allegedly also claimed that he would “shoot up the place.”
“It was the last 10 minutes where his demeanor escalated to the point of no reasoning, loss of reality and absolutely no listening to trying to deescalate the situation,” White said. He noted that the hallucinogen psilocin was found in his system by authorities. As per the district attorney, the killing was justified under the state’s “stand your ground law", the Castle Doctrine.
In a previous interview with The Daily Beast, Spencer’s mother, Icilda Hunter, had opened up about what she thinks about the incident. She remarked how while the men said Peter was going crazy shooting at people, nobody but he died and he did not kill anybody. Even in the chaos none of the others got hurt. Hunter said that her son could not have used illicit drugs as he was scared to even take pain medications.
Hunter revealed that six gunshots had penetrated Spencer’s chest, two of which were found in his bicep, according to the coroner. One of the bullets reportedly went through his mouth. The coroner, however, could not determine how and exactly from which direction the bullets entered Spencer's body.
Spencer was in the process of getting his trucking license before he was killed, his friends and family claimed. “I'm just tired of not getting any answers from these people,” Hunter said.
