Every once in a while, an incident takes place where the training of pets is called into question. A recent incident that was brought to light did just that. A video was posted on the Reddit platform by u/MeowMyMix on the 'Mildly Infuriating' forum of the app, which is captioned as "Me and my family trying not to get attacked by neighboring dogs."

The video shows a couple and their baby stepping out to their front porch for a moment when their neighbors' dogs rushed towards them in what has been deemed to be 'terrifying'. This video has received more than 25,000 votes on the platform since it was posted, with many other Redditors also throwing in their ten cents.

TikToker makes her dog's last day special with treats and cuddles in heartbreaking video

"I've seen aggressive/untrained dogs off leash in their yard and will approach or warn people that come near the yard, but never have I seen dogs just run off toward someone else's yard unprovoked, that's just terrifying," a Redditor wrote. Another Redditor said, "Even if these dogs are friendly. They could be hit by a car or presumed dangerous. Why the hell would you let your beloved family member run all over the damn road." Another user pointed out how it could be worse if it happened in another area, "Depending on your state, there’s typically a “dog off leash” or “dog off property” law. Call the sheriff’s department or whoever runs animal control and stop that nonsense so your family can actually enjoy walks in the neighborhood, let alone your own dam property"

Another user talks about the importance of dog training itself, "Omg this is exactly why I have never liked dogs. Every dog owner is like 'sorry my dog sucks, but other dogs are a lot better, we just didnt have the time/money to properly train them.' Repeat that for every single crappy ass dog. Ive only encountered like one dog that seemed fun to have as a pet and the owner was very keen on keeping the dog trained and personable." While a user said, "Talk to the owners then call the police"

The incident has prompted a response from the American Kennel Club's Vice President for Public Relations and Communications Brandi Hunter Munden. She emphasized the importance of training of pets by individual pet trainers or training classes, to help them understand limits and ensure well-trained dogs in society, as reported by Newsweek.

"Training helps build confidence, provides mental stimulation, and strengthens the bond between the dog and its family, It’s particularly important around children and babies that they don’t pinch or show signs of aggression towards children," Munden says. "It’s important to hire a professional trainer or find training classes to train a dog that seems to be more difficult to train. They can give you the proper techniques to train your dog successfully." She also emphasized the importance of training pets to understand that it is not okay for pet dogs to bite or pinch people and jump-scare them or run after them.

The aftermath

A few moments later, in a comment in his own post, u/MeowMyMix said that this was the first time he'd ever seen the dogs on their porch. He said he hopes that their visit to the police and their talk with their neighbor will help the situation and keep it from happening another time.

"The owner came and apologized 1000 times and said they are fixing the spring on the door and installing a porch gate as a deterrent and when he is sleeping his dogs will be in the house with him until he moves out next year," u/MeowMyMix said.
