Pet dog left horribly injured as it was dragged behind Range Rover after carjacker tossed it out of window
LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: Authorities in Mineola are reportedly on the hunt for an unidentified man who stole an elderly woman's car on Monday, January 2. What made the incident even more horrifying is that the carjacker threw her one-year-old puppy from the moving vehicle onto the freeway as he fled the scene.
According to a news release from the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD), a good Samaritan on the westbound Jericho Turnpike administered first aid to the dog and called 911 before responding officers took the animal to a nearby veterinary hospital, where he was "treated for serious injuries." The Cavachon Bichon could reportedly lose a limb due to his injuries. Thankfully, his 60-year-old owner was not injured in the incident. The stolen 2020 Range Rover was later recovered in East Orange, New Jersey, police said.

The news release noted how the woman was standing outside her car on the passenger's side and fueling the vehicle at a BP gas station at around 2.45 pm. The perp was seen in CCTV footage entering from the driver's side door and fleeing the scene with the car. He reportedly attempted to throw the pooch from the window and ended up dragging it behind the car because its collar got stuck. NCPD said the dog, named Sammy, was eventually able to free itself before it was rescued and treated for injuries. "She's very distraught. I mean, her car got stolen. Her wallet got stolen. Her phone. Whatever, those are all physical things. Those can be all replaced. But something like a dog, her family member? She loves that dog," Daeman Yoon, owner of Pet Story, told CBS News of the owner, who wasn't identified. Yoon said the victim had just picked up the Cavachon from his doggie daycare.
Kelsey Greene, the passerby who came to the dog's rescue with her boyfriend, told CBS she heard the dog's yelps. "I was shaking. It was really scary. I have two dogs of my own. My boyfriend ran out and brought him to safety," she said. Authorities arrived at the scene moments later and transported the dog to Mineola Animal Hospital. According to the Daily Mail, the operator at the hospital said the male pup was "doing okay" and that "no limbs were broken." Police eventually found the Land Rover on North Walnut Street near Parkway Drive in East Orange, New Jersey, which is about 45 miles away from where it was stolen. However, police are still searching for the suspect, who has been described as having a "thin build, wearing gray sweatpants, a black hooded sweatshirt, white/black/gray sneakers, black gloves, and had on a black ski mask."
