Penélope Cruz's description of Johnny Depp goes viral as actor's fans get #AmberHeardIsAPsycopath trending
Penélope Cruz was one of the first Hollywood figures to defend Johnny Depp after he was portrayed as a "domestic abuser" and a "wife-beater" following an op-ed by Amber Heard in 2018. Cruz described Depp as "one of the most generous people" she knew who was "always kind to everyone around." The Spanish actress' words have now resurfaced and gone viral, causing the hashtag #AmberHeardIsAPsychopath to trend on social media platforms, especially after the fresh allegations leveled against Depp in court.
The defamation trial involving Heard, 36, and Depp, 58, is on a week-long hiatus after four weeks of explosive testimony. The 'Aquaman' star testified that her ex-husband began threatening her life shortly after they tied the knot. She accused him of sexually assaulting her with a bottle of Maker's Mark while the pair was in Australia during the filming of the fifth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie. On the other hand, Depp has claimed he never laid a hand on Heard and that she was, in fact, the abuser in the relationship. He accused her of throwing a bottle of vodka at him and severing his finger in the process.

Amber Heard appears startled as Johnny Depp approaches her in very AWKWARD moment in court
A tweet featuring Cruz's description of Depp went viral on Sunday, May 8, as fans discussed Heard's shocking allegations against him. "I’ve seen Johnny in so many situations and he is always kind to everyone around. He is one of the most generous people I know," Cruz said of her 'POTC' co-star in March 2020. "During the first six months of my first pregnancy, I spent every single day with him while we shot 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. My husband and I will never forget the sweetness, protection, and kindness he treated me with during every single step of that process," she gushed.
It wasn't long before the hashtag #AmberHeardIsAPsychopath began trending. "Amber Heard sliced off Johnny Depp's finger, causing him to contract MRSA 3 times, burned his face with a cigarette, shat on his bed, spat on him, withheld his medications, and punched him. He lost his job. She didn’t. #AmberHeardIsAPsycopath #AmberHeardlsALiar," one fan fumed on Twitter.
"I can't believe she's using an allegation of rape as a tool to further her storyline as a "victim" when there are so many real rape victims out there. what a f***ing psycho #AmberHeardIsAPsycopath," a comment read.
Another fan wondered where the discourse would have headed if the roles were reversed, writing, "The crazy thing about this whole situation is if roles were reversed, and Johnny Depp was on tape saying 'I didn’t punch you I hit you' society would be calling for his head let alone 50 million dollars. #JusticeForJohnnyDepp is about equity. #AmberHeardIsAPsycopath."
Someone else noted how responding officers did not identify Heard as a victim of domestic violence. "Police officer: I didn't identify her as a victim of domestic violence. they only give pamphlets to victims of domestic violence. .. sorry Amber but you are not one of them. #AmberHeardIsAPsycopath," they offered.
"The only way Johnny Depp could have needlessly suffered any more throughout any of this is if they had a child together. I can't even imagine the manipulation and emotional torture that he would have endured. #JusticeForJohnnyDepp #AmberHeardIsAPsycopath #AmberHeardIsALiar," one posited.
Another fan who claimed to be a victim of abuse offered their own assessment of Heard's testimony. "As a victim of abuse, who hasn't been believed once in her life (you can all don't believe, I'll go on surviving), and who has been abused by angel-faced ladies like Amber all I can say is: she looks guilty af and showing obsessive behavior. #AmberHeardIsAPsycopath."

Presiding Judge Penney Azcarate adjourned the sensational trial on Thursday, May 5, and proceedings are expected to resume on Monday, May 16. Heard is facing a $50 million lawsuit accused of defaming her ex-husband in a 2018 op-ed in which she stated she was the victim of domestic abuse. And while she didn't name Depp explicitly, his legal team has argued that the implications were obvious and damaged their client's Hollywood career. Heard has filed a counterclaim of $100 million for nuisance, with her legal team arguing her opinion piece was simply a matter of public interest.
