LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicolas-Jacques Conte, a French engineer, invented the "Crayons Conte," which were baked rods made of low-quality graphite and clay. The invention of Conte sparked additional pencil manufacturing innovation. The production of pencils became commonplace all over the world thanks to the experiments carried out by Germany, France, and the United States.

On March 30, 1858, Hymen Lipman patented the 'modern pencil' and the National Pencil Day is celebrated on March 30 as well. This day is to honor this magnificent creation by him. 5 Easy uses for pencil shavings

Here are 5 easy ways to use pencil shavings.

Make Art

You have already colored a fantastic coloring page with pencils. However, this time you have to harness your creative potential. Make fun new designs with your shavings by gluing them together with paper and glue.

Compost

Pencil shavings, are they compostable?  The most common ingredient for homemade fertilizer is leftovers and scraps. However, did you know that pencil shavings are an excellent source of carbon for your compost pile? Carbon is of the utmost significance. It supplies food for the potent little microorganisms that decompose organic matter.

Bedding for rodent pets

Pencil shavings are loved by many animals, including rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and gerbils. Additionally, using these small pieces of wood to make pet bedding saves a lot of money.

Potpourri

The three main components of potpourri are fragrance, filler, and fixative. The fixative takes in the other scents. You can use any perfume or essential oil you like for the scent. For the fixative (pencil shavings) to last longer, add any fragrance to them. Dried flowers, leaves, and herbs are examples of filler, which can be fragrant or not. You can store this in a jar.

Fire starter

If it's chilly outside, take out the pencil shavings and light a fire. They are tiny dry wood chips that will make excellent fire starters.
