Vice President Mike Pence was mocked on Twitter for hailing President Donald Trump as 'the most pro-life president in American history' at Life is Winning Event at the White House on Wednesday, December 16.

He delivered a speech at the event which was held at the South Court Auditorium Eisenhower in the Executive Office Building, where he thanked the attendees on behalf of the POTUS and the FLOTUS. "Let me bring greetings from a man who from early on in this administration, and as a candidate, made it clear that he would stand up for the sanctity of human life. And allow me to give you the opportunity to thank the most pro-life president in American history. I bring greetings from President Donald Trump," he said to loud cheers across the venue.

He then added: "Even before our inauguration four years ago, President Trump wrote to the Speaker of the House of Representatives in words that I believe are well to reflect on today. He said, 'I believe it is the most basic duty of government to guard the innocent.' With that in mind, he made it clear and he said, 'I will veto any legislation that weakens current pro-life federal policies or encourages the destruction of innocent human life at any stage.' And President Donald Trump has kept his word every single day."

After a video of the VP's remarks went viral on social media, people on Twitter flocked to the comments section to ridicule Pence, reminding him that Trump was responsible for more than 300,000 deaths due to his mishandling of the Covid-19 outbreak in the United States. "Ummm. Coronavirus death denial!" one of them wrote while another said, "Is letting 300,000 Americans die in a 8 month window pro-life? Is resumimg federal executions, seeking bringing back firing squads and executing 14 people in less than 3 months Pro-life? Great to know." A third reacted with, "300,000 souls have some questions about that." One more asked, "Is this an SNL sketch?" Another mocked, "We really need to talk about the term 'pro-life.' There is no definition I'm aware of that could make this statement true." The next tweeted, "This dude is a joke."

There were also others that pointed toward reports of Trump trying to carry out as many executions of criminals as possible before the official end of his term and the fact that he implemented a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to illegal immigration which caused families to be separated at the borders. "Isn't Trump busily executing as many people as he can and trying to re-instate firing squads as a means of execution before he leaves office?" one of them said, while another quipped, "Pro life? Didn't he push through executions?" One more remarked, "300,000+ dead is pro-life? Ramping up executions before he’s out of office is pro-life?" Another commented, "Huh? 300,000 plus dead Americans on his watch. Kids separated from their parents deliberately. Trying to take healthcare away from millions. Seriously?"

Pence, on the other hand, touted the efforts of the administration in responding to the virus and getting a vaccine approved at record speed. "President Trump said early in our administration, and I quote, 'Every person is worth protecting. Every human life, born and unborn, is made in the holy image of Almighty God.' In this administration, it’s always been about life. And that’s been evident in the last year, as our nation has passed through this challenging time of a global pandemic," he said in his speech. "When the President asked me to lead the White House Coronavirus Task Force — I’ll never forget the day — he said, 'Mike, I want you to step down; I want you to work with our outstanding health leadership all across this administration, across the country, with one mission' — and that was to save lives."

He added: "We launched the greatest national mobilization since World War Two. We reinvented testing. Some 200 million tests have been performed across America — some 2 million a day. We saw to the production and the distribution of literally billions of supplies, of personal protective equipment. And all along the way, this President and this team were in a relentless drive to save lives. We’ve created medicines in record speed. And as the world learned last week, we have come to the beginning of the end of the coronavirus pandemic, and people are already receiving the first safe and effective coronavirus vaccine all across America."
