MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Pedro Hernandez, a man once used for bail-reform posters by the NYPD, is now being sought by cops for attempted murder outside St Patrick’s Cathedral in Mahattan. Hernandez has previously been wanted for reckless driving and other cases as well. This time, he is wanted in the August 28 Midtown shooting in broad daylight after he lost a card game, as per officials.

Hernandez, 22, is suspected of shooting into a Mercedes on Fifth Avenue and 50th Street, at 5.45 pm August 28. It is believed that the shooting stemmed from a game of three-card monte. As reported by the New York Post, he's believed to have lost some jewelry and cash to a pair of hustlers who managed to indulge him in a rigged game and conned him. The sources explain that once Hernandez lost his valuables, he demanded them back. In the heat of the moment, he shot at their car when they refused. He then jumped into his BMW and chased the hustlers into the parking garage of the Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue. Sources claim he then chased the men on feet.

The outlet further explains that during the pursuit, one man dropped Hernandez's cash and a gold chain which he then collected and fled. The men who hustled Hernandez were later arrested on unrelated open warrants. But for the bail-reform poster boy, the police are actively looking for him with a warrant. Hernandez became a celebrity for criminal-justice advocates after he was bailed out of jail by the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Foundation on a reduced amount of $100,000. The outlet has previously reported that Hernandez, who has a lengthy rap sheet, has blamed the police for the same claiming "They’re highly targeting me."

Back in 2015, he was arrested and charged in a Bronx robbery with three accomplices after the victim was hit in the face resulting in 15 stitches. Hernandez got out of jail after posting $15,000 bail on June 3 as the case remains open. Merely two weeks after his bail, he was once again in trouble with the law as he was wanted by the cops for reckless driving. The officials explained that it was the second time he was wanted for reckless driving ever since his June 3 release. His three open gun cases all date back to 2019 and the carer criminal has spent a year in Rikers back in 2017 as well.
