Pedophile who repeatedly raped his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter complains his 19-year sentence is 'excessive'
A 44-year-old man, who filmed himself repeatedly raping his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter and put a muzzle on her to stop her from screaming, has reportedly complained that his 19-year-prison sentence is "excessive."
The man, identified as Jason Daron Mizner, a yoga teacher from Queensland, pleaded guilty to over 60 child sex offenses relating to the toddler in the early 2000s. He was subsequently sentenced to 19 years in prison last year. Mizner's other charges include over 30 counts of rape and videotaping the assaults.
The pedophile was reportedly caught after he went to Thailand and left a bag of his possessions at home, which was ultimately discovered by the two-year-old girl's mother. The bag was filled with handwritten notes with children's names, and details on how to exploit them. The mother also found videos of the horrific assaults.
Mizner's application for leave to appeal the sentence was rejected by the Queensland Court of Appeal on Friday. This means that the pedophile will have to spend 26 years in continuous custody across Thailand and Australia before he is eligible for parole.
Reports state that he had already spent nearly 11 years in a prison in Thailand before being arrested on his return to Australia, where he was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment.
Mizner, during the appeal, had argued that the Australia sentencing did not properly consider the time he had already spent in prison in Thailand. According to The Courier Mail, along with the recordings and names of children, the bag also contained addresses of single mother and plans for a child exploitation ring.
The pedophile reportedly continued to stay in Thailand after his girlfriend made the discovery. He befriended another woman in the country and sexually assaulted her child too. Mizner, after his arrest on Thailand, was sentenced to 35 years in prison, however, he was released on bail in 2016 after serving 11 years of the sentence and was deported to Australia. After his return to Brisbane, he was arrested by Australian authorities.
Judge Clare, during his sentencing last year, had said that she struggled to cope with the disturbing footage despite having nearly 30 years of experience dealing with cases of extreme child abuse. She said: "I only watched a portion and it has been a battle to get the vision of your offending out of my head. I cannot imagine the horror of it for (the girl's) mother."
The 44-year-old will reportedly be eligible for parole in 2031.
