'Peaky Blinders': Season 5 might just see a budding friendship between Ada and Jessie Eden

The two women believe in the similar economic theory of a communism, and their political beliefs are driven by it.
PUBLISHED MAR 20, 2019

Ada Shelby (Sophie Rundle), the undeclared Communist of the Shelby family in BBC One's 'Peaky Blinders', has time and again indicated her disinterest towards her family's capitalist urges. Her first step towards rebellion was to fall in love with her brother Thomas' (Cillian Murphy) once best friend Freddie Thorne (Iddo Goldberg). This is the point where Ada was introduced to Communism and ever since she has maintained her belief of a classless society, and unlike her brother's monopoly, she believes that the workers should have utmost right to the production of commodity. Ada's beliefs are even more triggered by the presence of the firebrand personality, Jessie Eden (Charlie Murphy).

While in reality, Eden was one of the leaders who had fought for the equal rights of workers, in the Steven Knight- created show she has been reduced to a mere pawn Thomas uses in order to curb the rising revolution in his factory. Thomas had asked Ada to help him persuade Eden to withdraw her revolution, but Ada always knew that Eden would do no such thing. We do get to see the two women, for once in the entire show, talk about their common beliefs and just how much they both despised the capitalistic approach towards ownership of commodity. However, Ada finally succumbed to the fact that she is, after all, Thomas' own sister, and under no circumstance would she want to see her brother fail.
