Dad fatally stabbed in front of 3-year-old daughter for asking man not to vape around his child

VANCOUVER, CANADA: A man was arrested for fatally stabbing another man who asked him not to vape in front of his three-year-old daughter on Monday, March 27. The incident took place outside Starbucks in front of bystanders. Inderdeep Singh Gosal, 32, was detained and charged with the second-degree murder of Paul Schmidt, 37.
A video fo the horrific incident was shared on social media. In the video, multiple bystanders were seen standing around as Schmidt fell to the ground, bleeding. He was rushed to a hospital after receiving first aid but was pronounced dead. Gosal was apprehended by cops after witnesses detained him.

Paul Schmidt was with his daughter and fiancee
The “devoted” father was reportedly standing outside the Starbucks with his daughter while his fiancée, Ashley Umali, was getting drinks inside. According to The Vancouver Sun, Schmidt requested Gosal stop vaping near his daughter, who was in a stroller when he was fatally stabbed. “It all started because he was vaping beside the baby. Ashley’s in shock, she watched the whole thing. She’s so devastated,” Schmidt's mother, Kathy, told the outlet, adding, “He was just trying to protect his daughter. I’m angry and I’m sad.”

“This is so horribly wrong what happened,” Kathy continued, adding that the killer should have been charged with first degree murder. “He had a knife. I don’t carry a knife into a coffee shop, do you?” Kathy said.

Family members plead not to share video on social media
The graphic video of the stabbing was widely shared on social media which further upset Schmidt's family and loved ones. They pleaded people to not watch or repost the “incredibly traumatizing” footage.
“Someone took my brother’s life yesterday and another person filmed it (do NOT watch) instead of calling the police, and worse off, posted it on social media very clearly for views,” Jessica Foxx Foto stated, according to the outlet.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed his horror over the stabbing. He tweeted, “This is an awful and tragic story to hear about. Nobody should ever feel unsafe walking around out city. Our hearts go out to Mr Schmidt and his family."
