‘McCartney III’ will be rock icon’s 18th solo album and it comes after a gap of two years when he had released his album titled ‘Egypt Station’ in 2018. Originally, the newly-announced album is a follow-up to his two LP’s i.e. 1970’s self-titled solo debut and 1908’s ‘McCartney II.’
Release date
As the tweet posted by the legendary musician confirms, ‘McCartney III’ will hit the Internet on December 11, 2020, via Capitol Records serving as a perfect year-ender for the fans. The album is also up for pre-order here.
The official website revealed that his upcoming project also will be available in CD, and on LP format manufactured by Third Man Pressing.
Concept
Paul McCartney has shed light on the album via an official statement where he reveals, “I was living lockdown life on my farm with my family and I would go to my studio every day. I had to do a little bit of work on some film music and that turned into the opening track and then when it was done I thought what will I do next? I had some stuff I’d worked on over the years but sometimes time would run out and it would be left half-finished so I started thinking about what I had.”
The British crooner added, “Each day I’d start recording with the instrument I wrote the song on and then gradually layer it all up, it was a lot of fun. It was about making music for yourself rather than making music that has to do a job. So, I just did stuff I fancied doing. I had no idea this would end up as an album.”
Also, just like ‘McCartney II,’ Paul McCartney has also written, performed and produced the third part of the trilogy, as the official trailer mentions which you can check it out right here:
Tracklist
Since the album has just been announced, fans might have to wait a little longer for the official tracklist of ‘McCartney III.’ However, the official press release has spilled the beans on two songs i.e. ‘Long Tailed Winter Bird’ and ‘Winter Bird/When Winter Comes.’
According to the Ultimate Classic Rock website, both the songs are embellishments of an unreleased track which McCartney composed with George Martin in the 90’s.
