LOL Surprise male dolls with detailed 'graphic' genitals enrage parents, company calls it a 'gender-inclusive' move
Parents are apparently outraged after unpacking the LOL Surprise dolls with their children to find that the boy dolls have genitals.
In order to try and get boys to play with dolls, toy manufacturer MGA Entertainment, who are also behind the Bratz dolls, introduced male dolls. To try and keep the element of surprise, children have no idea about the gender of the doll that they are receiving until it is unboxed.
Many parents took to social media to express their surprise and outrage at finding that the male dolls have a sculpted penis and testicles while the girl dolls have a hole in the genital area.
Some have called the addition of the graphic body parts "disgusting" while others have said that it is inappropriate for younger children. One mother took to Facebook to share, "Very inappropriate for a toy that states ages 3+. We won’t be buying anything LOL again."
Another mother shared on Twitter, "Why the f*** do the male LOL Surprise dolls have male genitals!?!? And detailed af too!?!?"
Yet another mother wrote, "Considering the majority of your consumers are little girls, I suggest this change IMMEDIATELY. Such a HUGE fail; please keep the genital area FLAT." MGA Entertainment explained that the feature had been added in order to reflect real life but in an appropriate way.
The company took to social media to share, "With the introduction of the ultra-rare Punk Bois the brand will now be universally gender-inclusive for both girls and boys. For many years the toy industry has been moving towards dolls that are more 'real' and anatomically correct."
'We believe this trend is here to stay and we will continue to lead the charge in toys becoming more gender-inclusive. We think boys will be excited to have a doll that looks like them."
"Also, many of our girl fans have brothers of their own and will be excited their LOL Surprise dolls have a 'real' brother, just like they do," the company continued.
