A documentary filmmaker, Chris (Roland Buck III), helps Margot (Emily Bader), as she is on the journey to a secluded Amish community in the countryside, in the hope of meeting and learning about her long-lost mother, her bloodline and her roots. It's safe to say that 'The Paranormal Activity' franchise has always been a series of live footage of uneventful happenings and incidents, and never really a movie, per se. However, it definitely features in everyone's list of creepy movies, that's for sure.
Having said that, 'Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin' is more of an experience if not a documented movie, for some reason. Although some scenes are predictable, the 7th installment has some genuine jump scares, more than any of the other in the franchise.
The last few minutes of the movie are decently shot, with some great action and bloodshed. To be honest, the last part of 'Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin' is probably the only thrilling aspect of the movie, and surely worth the watch. Having said that, the cinematography is beyond spectacular, with great horrific creatures/humans, paving the way to welcome the spooky Halloween season!
To sum up, with Dale being attacked by the ghost of Sarah's mom, Margot and Chris somehow make it to the van and drive away from the farmhouse, all the while seeing the rest of the villagers get possessed by a devilish spirit that makes them kill themselves and harm others. People set themselves ablaze and walk around with their eyes gouged out. Gory isn't strong enough a word to describe this scene.
The last few minutes have the police come in to investigate the crime scene, spotting a shirtless Sam, crying in the voice of a baby. He glares at the policemen, making them shoot themselves in the head. Sam gets in one of the cars and drives away, probably following Margot.
