Season 2 of The CW’s sci-fi series ‘Pandora’ began with some drama (not well-written drama, but drama all the same). In episode 1, ‘Things Have Changed’, we saw Tierney (Tina Casciani) make an appearance again, this time trying to buy something unknown but illegal from a courier, who it is later revealed works for Berman Livingston (Jeffrey Combs), a terrorist/freedom fighter depending on what side of the fight you’re rooting for.

Jax (Priscilla Quintana) and Xander (Oliver Dench) apprehend him, and though he does not reveal where Tierney is, he said that he had procured the canisters (that look like they contain some kind of green plasma) from an alien ship. Tierney had supposedly paid him to do her bidding. He told Xander about the unmanned freight ship where the rest of the consignment was kept hidden.

The Admiral did not allow Jax to go on the operation to hunt for the canisters because she felt that her relationship with her captain, Xander, was going to lead to troubles on the mission. What she did not, however, point out was that their relationship is a sexual harassment lawsuit in the making. Anyway, when Xander and his team went to the unmanned freighter to retrieve the consignment, they were ambushed by a group led by Jax’s supposedly-dead mother, Eve (Charisma Carpenter).

The first episode was full of Jax seeing her mother everywhere. She, of course, brushed it off as hallucinations of sorts because she thought her mother had died more than a year ago when the New Portland colony was attacked. But clearly, that was wrong. As things get heated, and the two groups fire at each other, a canister falls and breaks. From it, gushed out a green fluid that seemed to eat everything. While Eve and her crew escaped through a portal, Xander’s men died. The whole freight is consumed by the substance. Only Xander escaped alive. But things got predictably complicated because he lost communication with the Admiral. And she, because of the radio silence, decided that there is no one left to rescue; hence, no rescue mission.

So, what can one expect from episode 2 of ‘Pandora’ Season 2? Titled ‘Don't Think Twice, It's All Right’, the second episode will most likely see Xander being rescued. He’s the show’s protagonist, and this is not HBO, so the chances of him dying at the very beginning of a new season are as slim as they get.

Additionally, in the promo for the story-to-come that aired after the first episode, we see Xander in the flesh again, guaranteeing his survival. In fact, we see Xander tell Jax, “Let’s go find your mother!” While it feels like it is too early in the season to find out why and how Eve survived and why she waited this long to reveal herself, there is still a good chance that we will find out more about Eve in episode 2.

The promo video also reveals that the episode to come will take the show to a more “Wild West” motif -- as if being ‘Star Trek’ meets ‘Harry Potter’ thematically was not enough. We also see “The Ancients” being referenced, implying that Xander and other Earthians were in more danger than they thought. Hopefully, we will also see what the Admiral and Parallax’s seemingly nefarious involvement is all about.

New episodes of ‘Pandora’ Season 2 arrive every Sunday, 8 pm ET, only on The CW.
