Pablo Escobar's nephew Nicolas finds $17M hidden inside wall of drug lord's home, claims 'vision' inspired him
Pablo Escobar's nephew Nicolas Escobar says he found $17 million in cash stored inside a plastic bag in the basement of one of Pablo's houses. Nicolas Escobar spoke to Colombian media and revealed that it had been a 'vision' that inspired him to go and look for the money which was found inside the apartment where he has lived for around five years in the city of Medellin, The Sun reports.
He shared that it was not the first time that he had found money in places that Pablo used to avoid being captured. It is reported that the 'King of Cocaine' had scattered millions and millions in properties across the country of Colombia. Nicolas spoke to Colombian TV network Red+Noticias and shared that he had found a typewriter, satellite phones, gold pen, a camera and a film roll that has not been developed yet.
Nicolas said, "Every time I sat in the dining room and looked towards the car park, I saw a man entering the place and disappearing. The smell [inside] was astonishing. A smell 100 times worse than something that had died." He shared that many of the filthy banknotes which had been stashed in the wall were decayed and could not be used. During the interview, Nicolas also spoke about his relationship with his uncle Pablo. He recalled an incident where he had once been kidnapped by thugs who were trying to hunt down the narco drug lord. "I was tortured for seven hours, two of my workers were attacked with a chainsaw," Nicolas revealed.
Pablo who was also known as 'El Patron' had been arrested by the authorities in the year 1991 and was held inside a self-designed prison called the Cathedral where he chose his inmates and continued to run his drug operations from within, Independent reveals. It is also believed that the narco king's cocaine business would bring in an estimated $420 million per week in revenue. It is not possible to verify Pablo's wealth given it is all drug money but it is estimated that his wealth was in the $30 billion brackets. Pablo Escobar died in a police shootout in the year 1993 and had been the world's seventh-richest person. Officials have estimated that during Pablo's reign, his cartel was responsible for the deaths of more than 5000 people between 1989 and 1993.
Streaming giant Netflix had come out with a series called 'Narcos' which reportedly saw more than 60 million viewers and had three seasons dedicated to the rise and fall of the druglord. In the show, Pablo's role was played by a Brazilian actor Moura Wagner. It was Pablo's humble roots which had made him very popular amongst some Colombians whom he had supported by giving out large quantities of cash and investing money in the poorest neighborhoods in the city of Medellin.
Many social media users commented on the news of the money. One such user joked, "Hey, that's MINE! I reported it missing years ago. DM me here and I'll let you know how to get it back to me. Thanks very much."
