'Ozark' Season 3: Fans list out reasons why Wendy and Darlene are the worst characters

In a Reddit thread, many 'Ozark' viewers came together to bash Wendy and Darlene for their evil acts.

In Netflix's 'Ozark', women have an upper hand in the battle for power. From Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) to Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) and Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner), each one seems to have put their evil side to get their way in the crime drama.

The power-packed portrayal of women in 'Ozark' may be a window to the future of women in a world of action, conflict and crime, where they are usually relegated to portraying wives, girlfriends, love interests, evil housebreakers or damsels in distress. Sadly, fans don't feel the same. In a Reddit thread, many viewers came together to bash Wendy and Darlene for their evil acts.

Listing out all the reasons to hate Wendy, one viewer wrote, "She cheated on Marty. She's the one who caused that instability. She wanted Jonah to pull the trigger. And now, she threatened her daughter's lawyer after Marty telling her not to. Marty is right. She has been habitually doing things unilaterally without consulting with Marty. And now, she is totally shocked... about her daughter owning her own van. Why? Because she didn't even pay attention to her kids to realize that her daughter owned a van. I hate her so much."

Another viewer posted, "I viewed Wendy, very, very differently. Throughout Season 2 she does things unilaterally more and more. She shouldn't have talked to the lawyer. In the final episode, she did something that we wouldn't have thought possible just a few episodes earlier (I don't know how to use spoiler tags so I'm intentionally keeping it vague). Wendy in my view caused so many problems."

Adding Darlene's ugly deeds to the list, another one posted, "Same deal with Darlene. She can't just f**king let go of her pride for 2s to see that the Casino is mutually beneficial for all three parties: Marty, the Cartel, and the Snells. In unison with their thoughts, another fan said, "Spot on, Wendy and Darlene are the worst characters with the FBI agent a close third for me."

Meanwhile, many viewers came together to take Wendy's side, saying she was "smart," a "strong woman" and a "good character." They also labeled the actress as "charismatic". Another fan pointed out how "not one person in the series is good." As the series rolls out in 2020, it is yet to be seen how strongly these female characters are shown.
